Whitby Town's home game with Burscough on Saturday is a "Pay What You Want Day". If you want to pay 1p to get in, you can do. If you want to pay £1000, you can do.
This is a great idea, but should be taken one step further - fans should pay at the end of the game. Imagine how this would change football for the better.
Firstly, and most obviously, if Bolton put in a performance like that against Fulham you could just hand over 1p at the end of the game - softening the blow of having to watch such shite.
But more importantly, the clubs would be under more pressure to produce a winning side. No more of these trips to Dubai to reward a pitiful performance, they'd be too bothered about doing everything they could to ensure victory. It would also put an end to ridiculous long term contracts for these overpaid ponces - a club can't commit to £40k per week if they're only going to take £200 at the next home game.
I think I might be a genius, I can't see a downside to my plan.
