Middlesbrough have raised the bar on Lukas Jutkiewicz – with Wanderers now looking at £1.25million to join the hunt for the striker.

The Riverside club are succeeding in their aim to get a bidding war started for the 25-year-old target man, and are believed to have turned down Derby County’s opening offer of £1m.

The Rams are now understood to have made an improved offer, which is currently under consideration.

Wigan Athletic and Wolves are also monitoring the situation but Blackburn Rovers have dropped out of contention after signing Doncaster Rovers’ Chris Brown yesterday.

Boro want to raise cash to fund Aitor Karanka’s spending plans but after Derby showed their hand at the weekend, they are now waiting to see whether anyone else follows suit.

Wanderers are still the preferred destination for Jutkiewicz but as the negotiations continued for the former Everton striker, the only direction players appeared to be heading at the Macron Stadium was towards the exit door.

Haggling continues in the deal that could see Premier League new boys Burnley take Marvin Sordell to Turf Moor.

Wanderers want to recoup as much of their massive £3.2m outlay on the former England Under-21 striker but are realistic enough to know they will have to take a heavy hit.

Meanwhile, reports in Derbyshire claim that League One Chesterfield have made a six-month loan offer to the Whites for Craig Davies.

Port Vale were also credited with an interest at the weekend but Wanderers are currently playing down both stories.

Despite a serious lack of striking options, Dougie Freedman could be convinced to part with the Wales international if the right offer came in.

Davies spent the latter half of last season on loan at Preston North End and Wanderers were preparing themselves for a permanent offer. But the Lancashire club have looked elsewhere and with first-team football still unlikely for the 28-year-old, a loan could be considered again.

Lee Peltier – a long-time target of Freedman’s – was officially released at Leeds United yesterday but he appears to be on his way to Huddersfield Town.

The words 'Bolton' and 'Bidding War' should not be put in the same sentence...

Looks like back to square one again. Unable to score for first few months of the season, manage to loan a striker, put him in the shop window for the parent club to sell him at the end of the season to one of our rivals...

Disgrace Gartside will have his grubby little paws in Eddie Davies master plan.Cry out for fans to shell out for season tickets yet we have a cluster fuck of forwards.IF we can get rid of Sordell to Burnley n Craig Davies to Chesterfield surely Juke should be ours. All this bollocks about Debt?wasnt it We are not in debt only to the owner.
If this is the case Gartside saying we have a £10 million float with Barclays. So all the land ex tip and Horwich RMI bought for peanuts a stadium built for £40 million, what would that cost today.
You would think this season it would be a good time to prioritize promotion.
We have assets to sell if we get rid of Sordell for a million who would not be happy and Craig Davies and then the iceing on the cake CYL,we could buy juke n Mason. We need goals end off.
The season starts soon and if Burnley take Sordell for money that would help by the Juke and we off load CYL,Baptiste,Craig Davies I would be dancing.

Sky Sports understands Derby are ready to pull out of the race to sign Lukas Jutkiewicz due to Middlesbrough's demands for the player.

Derby have been leading the race to sign the 25-year-old front man as Steve McClaren looks to beat several Championship rivals to the striker's signature.

The likes of Burnley, Wigan, Wolves and Bolton, where Jutkiewicz had a successful spell on loan last season, are all thought to have expressed an interest, but Derby were keen to bring in the striker as they look to build a squad capable of winning promotion next season.

Jutkiewicz spent the second half of last season on loan at Bolton and impressed at the Reebok Stadium, scoring seven goals for the Trotters.

Jutkiewicz appears to not figure in Middlesbrough's future plans, with the former Everton man forced to go out on loan to Bolton in search of regular first-team football.

Middlesbrough signed Jutkiewicz from Coventry in January 2012 for a fee of £1.3million and it is understood they are now demanding a figure higher than then paid for him to sanction his departure even though he is not in their long-term plans.

The price-tag has dismayed Derby who were hoping to conclude a deal quickly in a bid to fend off rival interest in Jutkiewicz and are now ready to withdraw their interest in the player.

Looks like we will have to stump up at least £1.5mill for the Juke, personally for that I think we can sign a better quality of striker.

Good target man but didn't find the net as much as i'd like.

The price will go up if Boro think they can start a bidding war, we all know Dougie won't play that game and will wait it out or look elsewhere.

There won't be a bidding war. We won't get into one because we don't have the money. This one like so many others died the moment another club said they were interested. Juke will be in a white shirt next term but it'll have a ram and not a rose on it.
