Bolton face mounting competition for Jutkiewicz from Derby, Wigan, Blackburn and Wolves

Wanderers face missing out on fans’ favourite Lukas Jutkiewicz unless they act quickly.

Sources close to the player claim promotion-chasing Derby County have now matched Middlesbrough’s £1million asking price for the striker – and local rivals Wigan Athletic are prepared to follow suit in the next 24 hours.

Wolves and Blackburn Rovers have also registered their interest, but despite the competition, it is understood Jutkiewicz would prefer a move to Bolton, where he was a smash hit on loan last season.

Dougie Freedman has confirmed his interest in the 25-year-old but the Whites have struggled to come up with the cash this summer.

That could change if reported interest from Burnley materialises in a bid.

But the reailty if that they could now miss out on Jutkiewicz if Steve McClaren’s Derby get their man.

McClaren is understood to see Jutkiewicz as the missing piece of a squad that has been carefully assembled over the last four years and just missed out on promotion via the play-offs last season.

There has been mounting worry among Wanderers fans that the lack of a proven goalscorer could see them miss out on the top six again next term.

But Jutkiewicz proved in his four-month stay that he suits Freedman’s system – scoring seven goals in 21 appearances for the club.

Freedman also wants to bring back Joe Mason from Cardiff City but is focusing first on trying to head his Championship rivals off for the highly-rated Jutkiewicz who he rescued from the subs’ bench at the Riverside last season.

Wanderers go into the new season with Jermaine Beckford as the only recognised front man.

Marvin Sordell is not likely to feature regularly under Freedman and last season’s goal-getters have now returned to their parent clubs.

£1million is nothing these days, surely we can afford this? Seems crazy to lose out on him when we've freed up a chunk of money from the big earners leaving.

Get real Rebel, his agent will be playing the clubs off against each other - even if BWFC offered £1m, his agent would be straight on the phone to Wolves or Rovers saying can you go to £1.5m?

but if we would have struck sooner and just forked out the money, we would have a striker ready to dance right in to the squad, one we know can score goals, likes playing for the club and is something we badly need. 

Instead, we have fucked about hoping nobody would go in for him and thus lower the price by a few quid and shot ourselves in the ass.

Its a million quid for fucks sake, im pretty sure a decent striker on loan IF we can find one - that's a BIG If - would cost us about this much in loan fees and wages anyway.

You're too naive for your own good, that's why you get so wound up. This 'interest' from other teams could easily be his agent/Boro putting out stories to force our hand just wait and see what happens before you go off on one. If we get him for a discount price everyone's winning.

1874, there's no way we'll get him for less than a million and frankly I think Rebel is totally correct about us talking the talk but then not walking the walk. In all truth we've heard the waffle coming out of Gartside's mouth when he talks about the club's debts and the transfer policy of "we won't be held to ransom" is actually an admission of "we're so skint we can't buy a tea bag let alone a striker." The Juke will start next season elsewhere and we'll be saying "We tried to make it happen but when they said TWO packets of Walkers Cheese and Onion Crisps we had to back off because we won't be held to ransom."
