It's encouraging nevertheless. A win is a win. Id have hammered him if we'd lost to credit where it's due.

We have been doing much better in the pre-season than last year. That's a positive sign. Although the games are only for fitness it instills a winning attitude and hope.
From match reports it seems we can't hold the ball up front and in the middle. That area needs to be improved before we tackle better teams I would think.

Looking back at the highlights of earlier pre-season games it also looks like there have been a few lapses in concentration at the back. Dougie seems to have the FBs playing more as wingbacks and I notice Moxey in particular is pushing on a lot so maybe that's why they're getting caught.terenceanne wrote:We have been doing much better in the pre-season than last year. It is better than last pre-season but there's just no way of knowing how we'll compare to other teams in the division until it gets underway. Tough test at Watford will tell us a lot.

True ... but it would be nice to read that we dominated some of these lower teams even though we don't score that many goals. Instead you read "hanging on' at Port Vale and stuff like that which doesn't fill me with confidence against Watford for starters. We should at the minimum control the game against lesser teams......IMO at least.

Exactly, but seeing as the current team is more industry than artistry it's difficult to tell if they were holding back or not. It's a worry for sure.terenceanne wrote:wanderlust wrote:Looking back at the highlights of earlier pre-season games it also looks like there have been a few lapses in concentration at the back. At least we aren't getting beaten by the likes of Radcliffe Borough and Chorley.....hang on a minute...

Bolton XI to face Wrexham: Fitzsimons, White(C), Maher, Fontaine, Wheater, Hughes, Lester, Trotter, Iliev, Clough, Hall
Subs: Campbell, Obileye, Walker, Woodland, Taylor, Youngs, Bastos
A bright start to proceedings here with chances for both sides, although Ross Fitzsimons has been the busier keeper. (14) 0-0

GOAL! Wanderers take the lead as Chris Lester's effort takes a wicked deflection off Joe Clarke on its way into the net. (38) 0-1

Just looking at the betting odds on this game v Vitesse. On betfair Bolton are 2.72, the draw is 3.8 and Vitesse are 2.62.
Unbiased thoughts anyone?
