Dougie Freedman believes on another night Wanderers could have clinched all three points against Middlesbrough.

Wanderers took the lead through Craig Davies’ 27th minute penalty after the forward was upended in the box when clean through on goal.

However, Middlesbrough equalised with a penalty of their own on the stroke of half-time through Grant Leadbitter, before Kike scored the winner for the Teesiders late on.

“We’re disappointed with the manner of the goals we conceded,” Freedman said. “We gave them a present for the first goal and their second was a loss of concentration on our part.

“I don’t like to talk about referees, but we do feel Craig Davies was denied a clear goalscoring opportunity when through on goal in the first half. Their man didn’t get sent off, so we have to forget that and get on with the game.

“We can’t afford to give away goals right now and when a referee’s decision goes against you it’s difficult.”

Freedman continued: “All in all it was a very close game and I felt we showed good discipline. We made sure that we created a few opportunities and the truth is that if we had taken them then we would have won the game.

“I felt we matched Middlesbrough. They are a good side and there wasn’t a lot in the game, except for them taking the opportunity in front of goal when it came their way in the second half. They took it and that was the difference.

“We’ve got a good group of honest players. We’ve seen tonight that they’ve given their all and I was happy with the response from the lads in the second half. They gave it a right good go.

“We now look forward to the game at Brighton. A very dogged display is once again needed in making sure we concentrate for the full 95 minutes."

I enjoyed that, you know when a manager starts blaming the referee his time is nearly up.

So what he is really saying is that we only have a chance of winning if the opposition have ten men

I'm getting fed up of all this "On another night" and "With a little bit of luck" bollocks.

You can cherry pick individual incidents from any game to try and prove a point, but you've got to take things as a whole and look at the trends and the stats.

And in our case they're both troubling.

I honestly think he's well out of his depth and is clutching at straws now and if we're not careful, he could well take us down.

It's always good to blame the officials, it detracts from the inadequacies of your own team.

I must have missed the bit where he *blames* the ref.

he highlights that he thinks the ref made a mistake.

We’re disappointed with the manner of the goals we conceded,” Freedman said. “We gave them a present for the first goal and their second was a loss of concentration on our part.

You're not supposed to actually read the quotes Hipster.

Go on, Hipster.

You carry on scraping that barrel.....

He's clearly stating that the Ref's decision not to send off their player had a significant role in the game's outcome, but if it suits your (increasingly desperate) agenda to defend Freedman at all costs to dismiss / ignore / spin it as insignificant, you crack on.

The rest of us will be over here in the real world.....

Surely a player being sent off would have had a significant role in the games outcome?

"spin" the exact quotes. All I did was paste them. I'm pretty sure it's others who are doing the "spinning"

And I'm not defending him, just pasting the quotes in which he clearly attributes the goals to the inadequacies of his own team using the collective term WE.

I hadn't realised that Boro absolutely battered us - I guess the published statistics lie as they gave the impression that it was a close game that could have gone either way which is what Freedman is saying.

The fact that Boro totally outplayed and dominated us seems to be lost on Freedman.

Did any see the possession stats for the 1st half?

Not sure how true it is but I heard it was getting on for nearly 70% for Boro.

Fuck, and we were the home side?....Something seriously wrong with that.

Then again with the way we give up the ball it's hardly a surprise.

Lusty,

They had 62% possession to our 38% and they had 19 shots to our 11.

Which stats are you using?
