Jay Spearing isn’t fearful of Bolton’s winless start to the new Championship season – but Dougie Freedman is poised to bring in re-enforcements.
Wanderers dropped into the bottom three after Tuesday’s 2-1 home defeat by Middlesbrough and visit Brighton on Saturday where they haven’t won since 1977.
Crewe’s highly-rated young striker Max Clayton is on trial with the Trotters while Freedman is believed to be close to signing Liverpool winger Jordan Ibe on loan.
Ibe was loaned to Birmingham last season and played in the final game against Wanderers when the Blues came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 and avoid relegation.
The former Wycombe prospect featured in Liverpool’s pre-season campaign but first-team opportunities are limited.
Bolton definitely need a lift, though skipper Spearing reckons it is only a matter of time before fortunes turn.
“We don’t want to do like we did last season and to go 10 games without a win,” said the former Anfield midfielder.
“I believe once we get the first win, we’ll kick on. But I’m not thinking about that run last season.
“It shouldn’t even be touching our mind. We feel like we should have got six points out of the two homes games (against Forest and Middlesbrough) and now we have to look at Saturday.
“You are only human. Like everyone else you look at some of the bits of bad luck we’ve been getting and hope they change.”
