This season will he be the Spearing we love to hate or the one we thought we were getting ?

How good did he look today?

Did ok for me, I've no problem with Spearing long as he plays to his Full Potential and keeps his Concentration.

Was really hoping he'd have an excellent game because he is capable of turning things around for himself.

I wasn't overwhelmed with how he played in the first half but he really came into it in the second. He then goes and shows what an idiot he truly can be by diving pathetically when on a yellow card.

Overall not a good day for him, but did show signs that he could come good for us.

Doffy, you're still young but you are already displaying disturbingly cynical tendencies regarding The Wanderers, mate.

I hit 35 before I decided that they were all feckless knobs who weren't capable and should be shot in the head for (A) being shit and (B) not giving a shit.

Take a step back and just enjoy it - there's plenty of time for being a grumpy twat when you're older.

Trust me, mate......

(I had to put up with Simon Rudge and his ilk - ask your old man.)

i thought he did well, he sat in front of the back four, got tackles and blocks in and kept it simple when he passed it. Everything you would expect a defensive midfielder to do

No because the twat got sent off.

I think this is perhaps the most relevant aspect of his performance. A lot of the questions in the other Spearing thread were answered:
Yes - Lennon has accepted him back into the fold
Yes - his passing and effort appeared to be back to where he was when he first joined us
But...
Whilst the sending off was a bit harsh, either his reputation amongst refs preceded him so that he didn't get the benefit of the doubt or he still retains a bit of that petulant attitude that was his downfall before - simply by staying down, because if he'd got up straight away (perhaps in the hope that the ref might give a pen) I don't think the ref would have booked him.
From the little I saw and heard and from the opinions of friends at the game who were lucky enough to be able to get there, he was definitely on the way back to his best which is a credit to Lennon, tantamount to a new signing in many respects.
It's just that irritating attitudinal flaw that spoiled things. Again.

I'm not a big spearing fan BUT after falling in the box like he did after quite a good run trying to get himself into a decent position he was probably just thinking "fuck" like he could of scored or set up a chance. He didn't jump up and claim for a penalty. But i don't think it was simulation either. I think a lot of people are being a bit harsh. He had a good game and the REF fucked up.

The ref was harsh but Spearing could have avoided the booking by getting on with it IMO.
Sometimes it's about working out what the ref might be thinking and taking no chances.

Why, can't he reflect on a missed opportunity? The ref was a dick. Spearing did NOTHING wrong. He wasn't looking for the ref. It wasn't theatrical in the slightest. He lost his footing and was obviously pissed off

Some refs are dicks so it's generally best not to give them any excuse to do what they do - piss on you or f*** you over. Totally agree the incident was something and nothing but unfortunately Spearing went to ground in dick territory.

Did you go or are you watching from TV? Working out what the ref was thinking, good luck with that he was a real tool.

Spearing was very cute as the ball dropped he did the unexpected and fooled the defence to get into a very good position, But then tripped over purely from loss of balance or the ball caught in his feet, he didn't dive it wasn't simulation.

it was however a fool of a ref who prior to this was blowing for anything and everything, a shocking decision at a time when we were on top and Spearing was the driving force. He played well and we should appeal.

You can't appeal 2 yellow cards. The one match ban will be served on Tuesday against Burton Albion so no great issue.

It's a good point and I'm just suggesting that a bit more nous and he'd have been alright. Not his fault he didn't see it that way. Maybe I'm wrong about Spearing? Not petulant - naive. Or both. Whatever it is, it stacks up to leaving us a man short when we were finally piling on the pressure and a suspension.

He was in his comfy armchair in Norfolk. But he knew what the ref was thinking.
