It has now been reported that fireworks have been thrown at crews as they attended a bonfire started by youths in a park. here

I was born in 1948 and my family always called then black peas.
I too have the same memories of eating them in the striped tent at the fair on Moor Lane bus station.
Happy days, a simpler life, we were happy with very little.

You can still get black peas in Ye Olde Pasty Shoppe at bottom of Bradshawgate opposite Ye Olde Man and Scythe.
