Neil Lennon is ready for a midfield re-shuffle after reading the riot act to his side following Friday night’s 2-1 defeat at Norwich.
The Wanderers boss will make changes for the home clash against Cardiff City tomorrow night after revealing his disappointment at the way his side used the ball at Carrow Road.
Lennon hauled off skipper Jay Spearing at half time for tactical reasons and then tore into his team after the final whistle for struggling in possession and wasting a number of set pieces.
That could mean opportunities for Josh Vela, Rob Hall and Liam Trotter against the Bluebirds as the Northern Irishman tries to get more energy into the middle of the park.
“There’s a lack of belief at times in possession, an anxiety on the ball,” Lennon told The Bolton News.
“We have to pass the ball into midfield better because we have very capable players in Davies and Chungy.
“Having said that we need more from other people too, we can’t just rely on those two people.
“Even their final ball wasn’t great. That needs to get better as well.”
The manager added: “There is no question there is talent in the team.
“Yes, it’s short of Norwich’s level but that’s understandable.”
One of Lennon’s biggest gripes on the night as Wanderers crashed to their second defeat in four games under his charge, was the set pieces, both attacking front and defensive, which he believes were well below par.
“Our decision making should be better,” he said.
“When we get set pieces we have got some great physicality in the team – we have got players who can go and attack the ball but the service was abysmal.”
