Mark Davies has set his sights on facing Wigan tonight despite double vision forcing him off the field in the win over Cardiff.
The Wanderers midfielder was forced off the pitch on Tuesday night after complaining of blurriness but returned to training to prepare for the derby clash.
His fitness will give manager Neil Lennon a handy boost for tonight’s game, the first game to be played since the passing of club legend Roy Hartle.
With Darren Pratley suspended, captain Jay Spearing is expected to be restored to the starting line-up after shaking off the hamstring problem that meant he started on the bench last time out.
Lennon has sympathy for Pratley and believes Cardiff striker Ravel Morrison was lucky not to be sent off for appearing to slap him in the face in the incident which resulted in the Wanderers midfielder's dismissal.
Referee Geoff Eltringham showed leniency and booked both players.
Aston Villa’s Belgian striker Christian Benteke was sent off in similar circumstances in the Premier League a few days earlier after putting his hands on Tottenham’s Ryan Mason.
And Lennon is annoyed that his player now serves a one-game ban in what he thought should have been a straight red card.
“You’re not in the game to see people sent off, or even encourage it, but when you see what Ravel Morrison did compared with what Christian Benteke did for Aston Villa, there is no consistency there,” he told The Bolton News.
“Darren didn’t do anything wrong – he reacted a little bit – but I think it could have been handled a lot better. I think he’s very unfortunate.
“You could say he was lenient, that was one way to describe it.
“I’m not going to sit and criticise a referee after winning a game but I don’t think he had one of his better ones.”
Lennon sees no real difference in the quality of refereeing in the Championship compared to the SPL, where he managed with Celtic for four years.
“There might be a difference compared with the Premier League’s standard,” he said. “But I think in the main the officials have been fine. You’re not always going to get every decision to please me but I haven’t had much of an issue with any of the referees so far.”
Wanderers also welcome back Kevin McNaughton and Joe Mason to tonight’s squad after they were unable to play against their parent club Cardiff.
