Craig Davies paid tribute to Wanderers’ battling qualities following his winning goal in Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Huddersfield Town.
The striker’s fifth strike of the season secured all three points for the Whites in a tightly-contested clash at Macron Stadium - a game which saw the Bolton frontman also thunder a shot against the crossbar in the first half.
Speaking following the final whistle, Davies admitted his delight at finding the back of the net against the Terriers but believes that the game ultimately showed a different side to the Trotters’ approach to games.
“We got the good result today and everybody contributed to that,” said the forward. “It probably wasn’t our most convincing win, but we’ve ground it out.
“We’ve proven that we can play teams off the park as well in recent weeks, but you’re not going to run over every team that you play at home and win by three or four goals.
“Games like this one are the kind of results that will ultimately help you up the table – they’re the results that you really have to grind out.
“I was disappointed with my earlier chance that came off the bar, but when I did put it in the back of the net it turned out to be the winner which is the main thing.
“I thought the defence were unbelievable too – they all covered everything from start to finish, and it was just a great performance all round.”
A result which marked Wanderers’ fourth consecutive victory on home soil following wins over Brentford, Cardiff and Wigan in recent weeks, Davies reiterated the team’s desire to replicate their form on their travels, starting with next weekend’s trip to the Madejski Stadium to face Reading.
“At the minute, we aren’t thinking about anything but going to Reading next week and getting a result,” he said. “We’re going to go into training on Monday, work hard throughout the week and hopefully we can go there and get a good result.”
