Wanderers remain an interested observer after Kris Commons issued a contract ultimatum to Celtic this week.
The 31-year-old has turned down an offer by the Scottish champions, alerting a number of English clubs, including the Whites.
Negotiations continue with Commons adding after a midweek Europa League game: “If they want me here, they’ll keep me here.”
But speaking after the midfielder’s comment, his manager Ronny Deila said the former Derby star was taking a risk by holding out for a longer deal.
“When you get older, it is more risk for the clubs to take longer contracts and it is also to keep them (players) hungry, which is also important,” he said.
“I have influence on it, we are doing this together.
“We have a club to take care of and we are going to try to improve the team and see what is the best.”
