Online security has been making headline news this week, and if you're a TalkTalk customer, you must be feeling more than a little unhappy.
But do we do our bit when it comes to keeping ourselves safe?
I know many people who don't even use one of the free anti virus options, simply depending on Windows Defender to protect them. The thought of paying for internet security just doesn't come into the equation.
Many Mac users insist they don't need an anti virus at all,but this is more and more being shown up as a myth.
How far do you lot go to protect yourselves?

My trusty Fritzbox 3390 router has a firewall built in and I also use Symantec Endpoint Protection which also has network threat protection, antivirus protection etc.

The free antivirus programs (sorry apps!) really are shit.

It is worth spending money on this software or downloading it from a reliable source but the saying goes that you only get what you pay for!

Everyone must also make sure that their operating system such as Windows is kept up to date which will help plug holes to stop hackers from using this vulnerability for example.

Also you must keep your antivirus definitions up to date as many people forget this, your antivirus needs to be updated regular as newer viruses and malware come out all the time and your antivirus will be outdated and not protect you from these. You may as well not bother having antivirus if that's the case!

This isn't just it, you also need to be savvy with what you do online with links you click on and stuff you download from emails for example as you can get keyloggers from these that will record every keystroke from your computer and send the information back to the twat on the other side.

These programs are hard to find and don't show up as a normal program and are well hidden.

Sophos.
It's free and I've never had a problem with it.

On my Windows computers I use Hitman Pro as a second line of defence.
