Although he's not expected to be given the manager's job on a permanent basis Jimmy Phillips has identified a plus-point in arguably the club's most depressing season.

Bolton's relegation was confirmed with a 4-1 loss at Derby last weekend and, while the highs have been few and far between the caretaker manager has faith that better times are to come under the new regime at the Macron Stadium.

The takeover by Dean Holdsworth and Ken Anderson is welcomed by local lad Phillips, who's keen to see the pair pool their talents and bring back the good times.

"As poor a season as we've had, the real positive thing to come out is that we've got a group of directors and board members with very much a hands-on approach," said Phillips, who was placed in charge after Neil Lennon and Wanderers parted company last month.

"We've got vast experiences and different experiences from football, obviously with Deano it's on the playing side and managing, while Ken's from the football agency side and dealing with boards of directors, chief execs and chairmen, so they've got a vast wealth of experience between them.

"When you put the two parties together it should be a great combination to bring success in the future."
