Corbyn

It's one step forward and about twenty back for Jeremy. Does he seriously not understand why voters have deserted the Labour party?

If voters have deserted the Labour Party as much as the populist media would have us believe, does that mean he shouldn't make policy proposals or discuss ideas and opinions? 

In the 2015 general election Labour only got 2 million votes less than the Toerags,  4 times the Libdem vote and 6 times the SNP. I hardly think that's a mandate to silence Corbyn especially as this is Britain not the Soviet Union or North Korea.

He wasn't expressing an opinion as to whether Corbyn has the right or not to express an opinion. That wasn't the crux of xmiles comment.
He was commenting on whether Corbyns statement was sensible or not- and he's every right to do that.
I think he was right- Corbyn makes some progress ( as he has at PMQ) but then comes out with some curious statements about wage caps- not part of labour policy to date and virtually impossible to put into practice.

Why is it that virtually every thread we start on here at the minute ends up  a little bit nasty.

I think Corbyn is in the wrong job.
He would make a great CoE bishop -fair minded ,socially aware, woolly headed but deeply honest. His best quality for the job though is that he doesn't believe in God!!

To answer WL, my point is that yet again we can see how Corbyn simply doesn't have a clue as to how to attract electoral support outside his own narrow demographic. On the one hand he starts talking about not being "wedded" to the idea of freedom of movement then he promptly undermines this by saying immigration is not too high. He finally quite correctly gets round to noticing the crisis in the NHS and a few minutes later he is advocating a completely unworkable maximum wage.

I don't want to silence Corbyn but as Clint Eastwood famously said, a man should know his limitations.

As a Socialist,I object to underpants. It's obvious.

I see Corbyn has managed to change his mind already about introducing a maximum wage. Now he wants an equally unworkable 20:1 pay ratio for all companies awarded a government contract.

Right - you were commenting on what he had to say. Apologies - I had taken it for granted he would be talking pants so thought you were questioning why he was in the public eye at all.
Obviously in this case, he's trying to mobilise his core socialist support. Don't necessarily agree with him but he does have the right to say it.

Apparently not. Since the referendum the Labour Party has become the fastest growing party in the country having doubled it's membership in the last few months. Indications are that those who left over Brexit are now flooding back and young people in particular are joining (as well as a few right wing tossers who think they are being clever) 
During the same post-referendum period Conservative Party membership continued to decline and is now approximately a quarter of that of the Labour Party.

Of course, things might change if Theresa May actually has anything to say or indeed works out what she's going to do, but so far......
