Chung-Yong Lee’s future could be decided today – with Wanderers set to make an announcement that could impact on his chances of a move to Crystal Palace.
Neil Lennon will reveal this morning whether the South Korean star faces an extended spell on the sidelines with a fracture in his right leg, or whether he could be cleared to return by the end of the month.
Palace are waiting in the wings, with sources in South London claiming a deal is now in place to sign the 26-year-old once assurances have been given over the injury sustained a fortnight ago at the Asia Cup.
Whites boss Lennon also claims there has been interest from abroad in his playmaker but information on his potential injury has been kept a closely-guarded secret.
The Bolton News understands he is not in the frame to face Liverpool at Anfield this weekend – but that a lengthy injury lay-off will most likely end his chances of returning to the Premier League until the summer at the earliest.
Chung-Yong has refused to sign the deal offered to him by Wanderers and while Lennon holds out some hope that the midfielder may change his mind, he admitted last week it looked “less likely” he would play for the club beyond January.
Meanwhile, after drawing a blank in their pursuit of Lloyd Dyer, Diego Fabbrini and Lewis Baker, Wanderers are running the rule over a handful of trialists at Euxton.
Among them are former Manchester City striker Alex Nimely, who is understood to have cut short a deal with League One Port Vale, and Tunisia international midfielder Aymen Belaid, whose last club was Levski Sofia in Bulgaria.
Nimely is a former England youth international who won the FA Youth Cup with City in 2008 but played just twice in the senior team before spells on loan with Middlesbrough, Coventry City and Crystal Palace.
He signed at Vale Park just before Christmas but struggled for fitness, his solitary appearance made at Coventry on December 13.
France-born Belaid is a left-sided midfielder who can also play across the back four.
He has had spells in the Czech Republic, Tunisia, France and Bulgaria, where he made 20 appearances for Levski up to the end of December.
Wanderers are also taking a look at 22-year-old Northern Irish striker Daniel Hughes, who has scored 11 goals in 18 games for Premiership side Warrenpoint Town.
