Yo can't actually sign them up officially until 1st July. However all the rest of the paperwork has been done and he is ours - for better or worseSluffy wrote:I didn't think we'd actually signed Madine yet?

It's not whether he wants to stay or not, it's Liverpool have enquired and Bogdan, not surprisingly, wants to find out more.Norpig wrote:this whole Bogdan will he won't he saga is pissing me off now, if he doesn't want to stay at least have the courtesy to say so and move on and let us get Amos in before he goes elsewhere as well.
He's obviously touting himself about and thinks he can get a team in the premiership, well good luck and watch for the splinters and piles from all that time bench warming
Have to say poorly handled by Lennon and BWFC. Club should tell players you have a set date to male up your mind or we move on

Well it made me smile - guess it might be a generation thing perhaps?
Anyway Nixon saying Mardine a done deal, Amos close to one and Wilson Palacious (who hasn't done much for about five years) having a pre-season trial.
He was a very good defensive midfielder but obviously somethings gone wrong with him since those days.

Palacios was a good player especially when he was at Wigan but he hasn't played for about 2 years at Stoke, worth a trial i suppose

Palacios at his best was good but he seemed to get slower and slower and was so late into tackles he became a liability. Now he has the cheek to ask for a massive salary despite having done nothing for years. Lennon shouldn't go anywhere near him.
When is Spearing's contract up? Lennon should move him on to free up wages asap and then maybe we can get some class in midfield again.
This is an important position to fill especially if Pratley moves on - we'll have an incredibly soft centre if we don't get a beast in.

Think you're a bit off with your assessment of Palacios. Main problem is his head, since his brother's murder he's gone right off the boil and just hasn't seem bothered, shame because I liked him at Blues, Wigan and Spurs. If he could get his head straight and actually cares about the game then he'd be a real asset for us, far better than any midfielders we currently have but that's a massive if.

Whether it's his mindset, his age or something else altogether, the nett effect has been to slow him down considerably. Either that or premiership players are getting quicker.
Whatever the root of his problem is, he's been diabolical in the last couple of games I've seen him play for Stoke (which have been few and far between) He was so off the pace, it seemed it was just a matter of time before he got sent off.
Now if Lennon could persuade him to accept a third of what he's currently on AND turn his performances round and the clock back so they are something like what he used to be able to do we might be on to something and him and Pratley in the centre could dominate this league - but it will never happen in a month of Sundays, especially as Pratley looks to be gone.
Lennon should be looking elsewhere IMO.

whats happening with Rodolpho Austin from Leeds? he would be a great midfield enforcer if we could get him.

His last televised game for Stoke was 2011-12, so it's difficult to judge what sort of a player he is these days.
I disagree though I think this is exactly the type of signing we should be making - so long as he's available cheap. Turning around 'failed players' and getting a few more years out of them is what good managers do. I always liked Palacios and I'd hope he can get going again in a lower division.

I agree with the principle of getting older players - especially those with something to prove like Okocha, Campo, Hierro etc who had all been dropped by their respective clubs and were considered past it when we signed them.
Differences are that Palacios was never as gifted as they were in the first place, the position/role he plays requires a massive engine and fitness which is the first thing to go in an older player, we no longer have the money to pay the massive wages those guys were on and Palacios is on £2 million a year i.e. £40k a week - for which we could keep Pratley AND sign another.
All in all, too much risk and too much cost IMO.
Plus we've still to work out why Lennon splashed out on Twardzik - isn't he being groomed to be a midfield workhorse/enforcer?

Absolutely zero chance Palacios will be moving here on £40k a week, he can expect a quarter of that if he wants to play and he'll know full well nobody's going to pay $40k a week to a player who's barely played in 4 years. He's only 30, and as a defensive midfielder there's no reason to suggest he's not fit enough anymore.
As for Twardzik, no he's not an enforcer more of a creative midfielder as I understand it.

Don't necessarily agree with the principle of getting older players. Our problem was we got too many older players. It was fine when we had a young side, but our young players became old and our older ones got older and retired.wanderlust wrote:bwfc1874 wrote:wanderlust wrote:bwfc1874 wrote:wanderlust wrote:Palacios at his best was good but he seemed to get slower and slower and was so late into tackles he became a liability. There's enough experienced heads in there, we need energy and pace more than know how.
We need 'shouters' as well, as too many are too quiet and I think that's where Morgan comes in. That's why we had so many captains in the side last season.

Palacios is 30, which should be his peak near enough. I agree with you that we need a young team, but if you look at the first team at the moment there's not much experience left in it now we've lost (probably) Pratley, Mills and Bogdan.
If Palacios is willing to take a big pay cut, can get his head sorted and is actually interested in playing for us (3 big ifs) then he'll be an asset.
Personally I doubt any of the above will happen so it's probably not worth our time. But big credit to Lennon if he can manage all of that though.
