Is Josh Vela Crap?

I've never rated Vela. The Nuts catchphrase of "lightweight ponce" was invented to describe Josh Vela.

He started ok at right back, and of course the majority of Bolton fans were hailing him as the next Cafu, but in reality isn't he more like the next Steve McAnespie?

He can't pass, he can't tackle, isn't especially quick for such a lightweight, and looks about as likely to score as Breadman in a Rotherham Travelodge.

He's a big reason for our recent shite form.

No - he's average Championship quality. He has decent control and technique but lacks any features that would set him apart like pace, an eye for goal or exceptional vision. Needs to find his best position but the manager seems to view him as a utility player so he has to make do with what he's given. Good lad IMO but he'll never be exceptional.

The pass for Janko's goal makes a lie of the "he can't pass" bit. He has had games in midfield where he has looked a very useful player. If he is allowed to settle in a position, he will start to look better, but I think he is being given an education by being asked to play in defense. That was probably a part of why Twardzik was asked to play left back, now that I think of it. It was meant to make them better midfielders, which is where they are being prepared to play.

He had his worst match in a Bolton shirt yesterday for me. 

Apart from that, he's been like a new signing, and a good one. I'm just shocked that he's stayed fit for as long as he has.

Vela is a midfielder not a full back. He is being asked to perform a role that is new to him. I certainly wouldn't say he was crap.

One of our better passes and certainly gets stuck in. You can't judge talent Nat.

I liked Vela when I first saw him. I also thought he dominated midfield against Liverpool at Anfield. That was his best game for me. However I have been a little disappointed sometimes recently that he hasn't recreated that form.

I think we will see on this one but I do think there is something there, it's just whether he does the business consistently.

he is a good player but it's time to leave him in midfield and stop swapping him around all the time, He did a good job at right back but he will be an even better midfielder.
