A look back at September as Wanderers record their first league victory and visit Stamford Bridge in the Capital One Cup

SUMMARY
With Championship action interrupted by the first international break of the season, Wanderers returned to action midway through September at home to Sheffield Wednesday, having seen Lee Chung-Yong, Medo Kamara and Tim Ream all represent their respective nations earlier in the month.

New loan signing Owen Garvan made his Whites debut in a stalemate with the Owls after joining from Crystal Palace, before Bolton tasted their first league win of the campaign three days later – Joe Mason’s historic hat-trick securing maximum points over Rotherham United.

Ending September with back-to-back league defeats against Wolves and Derby County, Wanderers also narrowly exited the Capital One Cup at the hands of eventual cup winners and Premier League champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Matt Mills scored the Trotters’ only goal in a 2-1 defeat in a game while also saw loanee Chris Herd make his maiden appearance after joining from Aston Villa.

Elsewhere, Max Clayton and Paddy Kenny also joined the club during the month while Conor Wilkinson and Hayden White departed on loan – signing for Oldham Athletic and Carlisle United respectively.

THEY SAID
“The lads have been giving me a bit of stick saying I should have got five or six and got two match balls, but I’m delighted with the three I got.”

Joe Mason after becoming the first Bolton player to score a hat-trick since Fredi Bobic in April 2002 in Wanderers’ 3-2 home victory over Rotherham United.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Dorian Dervite’s performances in the heart of the defence saw him pick up the monthly accolade for September.

An ever-present during the month having initially started the season on the sidelines, the summer-signing from Charlton Athletic completed every minute of Wanderers’ five matches as he cemented his place in the Whites’ back-line.
