No,I don't want any chocolate!

I've been in five shops today,and on reaching the till at each of them,I've been asked "can I interest you in any chocolate today?"
It's not always chocolate,sometimes it's Polo Mints,or some other confectionery that they're trying to get shut of,but it drives me mad.
If I'd wanted chocolate or Polo Mints,I'd have taken some off the bloody shelf and handed them over with my other stuff.
Even Poundland are at it.
Maybe I'm just an old grump.

They do it at the Pictures and it always winds me up.

Maybe they are set targets to sell more of a certain item.. Maybe they Dont want to ask as much as you don't want them to but are forced to?

As a former retail employee, got to agree with Boggers. Supervisors used to be right on us if we didn't upsell.

This is certainly the case.
I know they have to ask,but surely the penny must have dropped with managers that customers don't like it.

They even do it in sportsdirect.

I actually walked out of a meeting once because the prick heading it up was attempting to get his point across by using only that sort of gobbledygook and nobody could tell what he was actually trying to say.

I was paying for petrol in the BP garage on longcauseway today and he tried selling me some fruit. At least I got a healthy option today.

I can't even browse in Waterstones any more.

The moment I do,some knob walks up to me and asks,'can I help you?'

No. I just want to browse, it's one of the joys of the high street book shop.

He does,eventually go away,but I can always see him,lurking in the biography section,ready to pounce at the drop of a hat.

I find that the key is to smile politely, say no and then back away slowly, maintaining eye contact at all times.
