Neil Danns believes it is only a matter of time before Wanderers starting clinching the results their performances deserve after they were knocked out of the Capital One Cup by Burton Albion.

Neil Lennon’s side dominated proceedings against the Brewers on Tuesday might, with Gary Madine heading against the crossbar in the first half, only for Matthew Palmer’s late deflected strike to seal the win for the League One side.

Admitting the result was hard to stomach, Danns called on his team-mates to take the positives out of the performance.

“We’re all very disappointed,” said the midfielder. “We’re all left wondering how have we lost that game.

“We’ve had a lot of possession and with the number of chances we created, on another day we could win by three or four.

“It’s there for everyone to see, we’ve been beaten but we’ve performed very well.

“We got into the right positions a lot tonight, we just couldn’t provide the finishing touch in the final third.

Danns continued: “It’s good that we are creating chances and not conceding too many chances at the other end. As long as we continue to create chances and look solid then we’ve always got a chance against teams.

“If we’d had more luck getting the ball across the line then it could have been the perfect performance.

“We’ve just got to take the positives from our first two games. If we can keep performing then it’s only a matter of time before we can turn these results into wins.”

Praising the quality of players at the club, Danns stressed the importance for Bolton to bounce back against Middlesbrough on Saturday.

“We’ve got quality all over the pitch,” said Danns. “Our new players have settled in straight away and I think on our day we can give any team a game in the Championship.

“The fans can see that we are giving it a really good go to prove the doubters wrong. We go to Middlesbrough next week –another one of the favourites and it’ll be another tough game.

“It’s not been an easy start for us, but if you judge us on our performances then there is a lot of optimism there.

“We held our own against Derby and I don’t see why we can’t do the same against Middlesbrough.”
