I must have been cutting onions for my dinner...ahem. Comes to something when we are given lessons in how to act with compassion and generosity by Germany

According to the UN office for Humanitarian aid, Britain has given more in aid to Syria's humanitarian crisis than any other country in Europe. In fact it is in the top few countries in the world.

Our country slogan should be "the gift that keeps on giving"!

Maybe we should just send lots of sweets and bottled water to Calais train station.

They are building new build houses for them, they'll all be driving round in range rovers soon.
Why don't they build houses for our homeless?

Below is an edited version of a longer poem by Carol Ann Duffy about the work of a war photographer whose job it is to bring the reality of suffering to the attention of a largely indifferent public in England via the newspapers. The photo of the little boy washed up on a Turkish beach shows how effective such work can be in changing perceptions and attitudes.
War Photographer
In his dark room he is finally alone
with spools of suffering set out in ordered rows.
Belfast. Beirut. Phnom Penh. All flesh is grass.
Rural England. Home again
to ordinary pain which simple weather can dispel,
to fields which don’t explode beneath the feet
of running children in a nightmare heat.
A hundred agonies in black and white
from which his editor will pick out five or six
for Sunday’s supplement. The reader’s eyeballs prick
with tears between the bath and pre-lunch beers.

Europe can and should do better. And not just for moral reasons but for selfish ones, too. Europe’s labour force is ageing and will soon begin to shrink. Its governments have racked up vast debts which they plan to dump on future generations. This will be harder if those future generations are smaller. Immigrants, including asylum-seekers, are typically young and eager to work. So they can help ease this problem: caring for the elderly and shouldering a share of debts they had no role in running up. Africans and Arabs are young. Europe can borrow some of their vitality, but only if European governments handle all types of migration more sensibly, which will be politically hard and require reform in labour markets, too.

What a load of shite.
I wonder why somebody from the economist is all for getting more cheap labour?

The article is suggesting there is an economic benefit to letting more refugees in on the basis of cheap labour helping to grow the economy.
its only one small aspect of the issue, but it's clearly not a load of shit it's a fair point to make.

1874 - the Pope has called upon every parish to take in a migrant.

I don't get your point. Some of my council tax goes to the parish, probably some of yours too.
So in answer to my question, you're not taking anyone in. Can't say I'm surprised.
All mouth and no trousers.
