Nobody outside of the club has a clue what's going on at the moment, I know you tend to see the worst case scenario LPP but we don't have any choice but to wait and see what happens at this point!

I agree mate but I'm a big believer in hoping for the best while preparing for the worst. God knows we've seen plenty of the worst in the last few years so if I turn out to be wrong and some rich white knight type rides into the rescue then wonderful, I'll enjoy that as much as anyone but I won't pin my hopes on it. That way if the worst should come to pass I won't feel as let down as I might had I believed everything is going to be fine and rosy.bwfc1874 wrote:Nobody outside of the club has a clue what's going on at the moment, I know you tend to see the worst case scenario LPP but we don't have any choice but to wait and see what happens at this point!

It beggars belief that the club didn't act sooner and try to straighten out the finances or at least not let them get this bad having seen Leeds, Portsmouth, Coventry etc go down this route already.luckyPeterpiper wrote:I agree mate but I'm a big believer in hoping for the best while preparing for the worst. It should have been a very big warning to the club.

You may remember my Leeds article karly. In that I pointed out they were a HUGE warning sign to every club that had spent more than it brought in. I know you, me and several others have been saying for years that the club was in the financial mire but it appears Gartside and the board either stuck their heads in the sand or just could not see what everyone else knew was coming sooner or later. I fear for us, I really do. I can see us emulating Portsmouth and becoming even more of a running disaster zone than Leeds are now in the next few years. I pray I'm wrong but this whole business is looking more and more murky every day.

Yes, boggers the almight oracle will now tell us all what's going on in the club. We know he's in the know because every comment he has posted has turned out to be spot on .... oh. Well. Maybe not then.

Might be good news in disguise as we can hardly get a game out of him. Same as a couple of other young players.
And if /when we're in League 1 he won't want to stay anyway.

Look fans looked at the so called "debt" but that was always going to be paid off, so was never the problem. The problem is clash flow and Garty always said that we needed to break even on income and expenditure "the club will have to run itself" - something we haven't managed for 50 years.luckyPeterpiper wrote:You may remember my Leeds article karly. The club doesn't have a steady amount of loyal fans and like most town clubs as soon as the bad times arrive your down to 6000 fans. If we were near the top of the championship there would be 17,000. When you get into the premiership 25,000.
The club never could pave it's way on football alone, that is why many were surprised the pop concerts stopped (is this because you have to pay a fee up top?). I'm not sure the hotel is such an advantage as most would use it only if we were in the Premiership and only then if you're coming up from London. Lets face it there are very few events on in Bolton - food festival and a smaller version of Manchester's "Gay Pride".
Should the hotel be converted to student accommodation? With the town needing to house more students maybe this is a better idea.
On the other side have the club done enough to attract supporters? Could they not reduce the hours the club shop was open or should they just run a internet shop. Perhaps they could franchise the club shop and horror of horrors sell "Man Utd" and "Man City" shirts.
Perhaps we should get rid of Euxton, the club is big enough to hold a gym or use the arena and you have the facilities over at Lostock to practice plays on.
Perhaps they should abolish the club shop altogether and sell souvernior's from carts etc. What was the point of being sponsored by a Solar Panel firm and not getting any Solar Panels for the roof? We could save loads on electricity with them and a few wind turbines outside the club.
I don't know what the number of staff is at BWFC behind the scenes these days, one time quoted as 250 when we'd been in the Premiership only a couple of years, which I always thought was too many. We will still need to cut staff.
Whoever takes over will have to have a better business brain than ED and PG had
and will need to come up with a better business plan. Otherwise we will be in the same pickle 5 - 10 years from now

Sprite, it's not a "so-called" debt at all. That line of junk has been spouted by Gartside for years and Eddie has let him do it while it continued to grow beyond any sane point. Add in that we owe money out to just about everybody from the taxman to the water company. Do you think they're going to write it off too? I'm sorry mate but there's no way to sugar coat the situation now. Eddie might not even be in a position to write off all the money allegedly owed to him because we still don't know who else is involved in things like Moonshift and they may not be quite so generous in how much they're prepared to lose. One thing I've never understood and perhaps Manda can help me here. If it's money Eddie invested then he did so knowing he might lose it. But it doesn't seem to be that way as it's been described several times as a long term loan. If that's the case then it most certainly IS debt and you can bet HMRC won't say "Oh it doesn't matter about that £170 million pounds your honour, it doesn't count." when they get to court to wind us up (if it goes that far). They'll use it as evidence to support their assertion that the club is not in a position to continue trading and so will every other creditor.

But if ED ids going to write the £170 million debt of then in that respect it is unimportant. If we get no buyer then I agree what you say comes into play. Irrespective of that debt the real situation to concentrate on is the cashflow - not the debt as that will disappear once the new owners takeover (or so we are told). ED has stated that he will "write it of" once the new owner comes in, which implies it is his to lose. It's described as a long term loan so he could get interest on it.luckyPeterpiper wrote:Sprite, it's not a "so-called" debt at all. I do take your point about HMRC, however, they're both playing a game here. Yes you are right about the suppliers too etc and they will use it. ED is also using the situation to get out. The problem though is getting the cashflow sorted. All HMRC are bothered about is getting paid. ED could have sold the club a week ago if he wanted, but, wants to make sure new owners have enough cash to keep the club going. New owner isn't going to have to pay £180 million otherwise they may as well pick us of at admin.
ED won't want to wipe the debt out until club is sold as he wants to choose who he sells club to.
