This has always baffled me a bit- when do you tip and when is it not expected.
We had the TESCO guy deliver  a few crate loads of stuff this morning. Normally the missus is in to get it but this morning it was me as she was off to visit someone in hospital.
After he'd delivered it ,he stood there waiting -presumably for a tip. I said thanks and closed the door.
Then my conscience kicked in- should I give him a tip or not?
What would you have done?

You bellend, no one tips the supermarket delivery guy!

He was probably waiting for his weekly blow job from the rammy household.

You did ask a stupid question. I've never heard of anyone tipping the delivery guy.

Do you tip the postman every day?

You don't tip the grocery man/woman.
In fact the only person I tip is the postie at Christmas.
I get slated for not tipping taxi drivers, but as far as I'm concerned they can get stuffed. I don't tip the bus driver, why should I tip them.

Agree Bonce, taxis rip me off enough without having to tip them too. I hate how we're inheriting this tipping culture from the states,it should be reserved for exceptional service at the discretion of the consumer.

I think I may be in a minority here then...I tip a lot, and stopped going to restaurants who had a policy of not passing tips on to waiting staff. I tip in taxis, hairdressers, hotels, restaurants. I guess I do it because I like it when people do something for me, and also I have a horror of being seen as mean, I like being generous when I can, it makes me feel good, so I get as much out of being the tipper as the tippee! Having said all that, I have recently been getting food delivered and it has never occurred to me to tip the driver.

If you tip regardless you are hurting society. People should be rewarded for doing something above what their job description states.

I don't like tipping although I do in restaurants. It's a terrible system - people should be paid for doing a job and not expect extra.

I give a lot to charity and always try and buy food/drinks for homeless people when I get the chance. I just don't see why I should tip people who I'm already paying to do their job, doesn't seem fair to me - unless they go out of their way to do something anyway!

I'll run with that Manda -although I no longer have any call to tip hairdressers. I was caught between a rock and a hard place with the TESCO guy.
I was in India last week -and tipped everyone who did anything for me- they needed the money far more than me.
I'd like to tip the postman at Christmas- but we have a different guy almost every day-so its hard to do.
The only people I would consciously not tip are the binmen as they dump mine and everyone else's bins across the drive - that's something that they could easily avoid doing if they thought about it
