I've always been irrationally patriotic when comes to the England national team and since '66 it's been an experience akin to supporting the Wanderers - always hoping that the team will play to it's potential and that it will be good enough to prevail, but seldom doing it.

Yet again I will be supporting England, hoping for the best, questioning the managers selection (e.g. Milner) and lack of tactical bravery whist fully expecting to be thumped.

The difference this time is that following the sick joke that was the World Cup, I'd be happy with a show of commitment to the shirt, even if we get thumped.

Yet more stories coming out of the euros today of the Dutch side being racially abused by polish people in their training session.

Not sure I heard it right but apparantly Platini has said if any player walks off if they are racially abused during a game they will be booked.......what kind of stupid message is that sending out to players.

The first game was mildly entertaining, awful ref mind. The sending off was a Greek tragedy.

This, oh I wonder which national team to support, is very childish to say the least. You have no choice, you were born in England, you want the country of your birth to succeed and when they ultimately fail then you take it on the chin and say 'we were robbed' or other such excuse.

Personally, I can't get to excited over the England football team. The FA, Sir Trevor Broking (?) etc, leaves me cold. The government missed a great opportunity to get the country behind the national team when they decided to build the 'New Wembley' on the site of the old. Imagine what it would be like if it had been built in the Midlands or Manchester. The vast majority of the country would have felt much more part of the set-up but every fu*king thing in this country has (for some unknown reason) got to be in London.

Anyway back to the point, you can't just say 'Well I support Brazil me' it's like a Boltonian waking up one morning and deciding to be a life-long City supporter. You can't chose your parents and you can't chose were you were born. Support your own people not foreigners. If you don't there is a word for it. Somthing begining with 'T'.

Anyone watching the Holland v Denmark game? The atmosphere is terrible isn't it? No singing, no cheering, just silence.
Ukraine was a very strange place to hold a tournament like this.

Somehow a match with a glut of shots sounded like a funeral by Jonathan Pearce and Martin Keown.

Absolutely dreadful commentary.

That Denmark result has fucked Holland up big time, though unlike Arry Redknapp I think Holland will get out of the group infront of Portugal.

I haven't seen a minute of any of Irelands game whilst they were trying to qualify so I am looking forward to seeing what they are like and the Spain v Italy game should be a good one.

I think Hodgson should stop talking bollocks about Ferdinand. He'd be just as well telling the interviewer to move onto the next question.

He knew he could only pick one from Terry and Ferdinand, because they despise one another after Terry's latest demonstration of what a scumbag he is, and he picked Terry...an ironic choice baring in mind the amount of talking he's done about the evil of racism.

Everybody knows that's what has gone on. All this rubbish about Ferdinand being too good to be a cover player is embarrassing.

Is it bird poo or has he been snorting a few lines ? I hope he doesn't get selected for a dope sample. Wouldn't you think he would have been much more careful in chasing the dragon.

No wonder the Irish get some stick.

P.S. And don't let's be hearing any shoite about it being sunblock because Poland and the Ukraine isn't exactly the Bahamas.

The media seem to be suggesting Oxlade-Chamberlain will start in place of Downing. If this is true hat's off to Roy.

Though imagine if he has a bad game...

"Roys blunder leads England to defeat"

"Ox wasn't ready..."

"Walcott Part II, Return to the right wing"

It probably will go tits up, but there's more chance of Oxlade-Chamberlain creating something than Downing.
