i'm not a massive fan to be fair and i think the stock answer to most people who aren't heavily influenced by jazz would be miles davis as he is the one direction of the jazz world. Insulting probably to a jazz artist or fan but what i mean is he has more commercial appeal and is well known and respected in his field.
