We didn't buy any records before '67. The first record I ever bought was "Good Vibrations" (we'd got a fancy stereogram and mum treated us to a record each) My brother got "The Carnival is Over" and I've never let him live it down to this day. The second record I got was the Magical Mystery Tour double EP which my parents banned from the stereogram when they were in earshot.
Since then, there are quite a few I look back at and wonder what drugs I was on at the time of purchase including:
Most of Ralph Records output (Chrome, Residents, Tuxedo Moon, MX 80 Sound) bit weird on reflection but I did have a night out with Snakefinger in Manchester after a gig at the place which was Jillie's.
Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks
Jean Luc Ponty - a man can only take so much electric violin and I'd already had my fill with Flock - although he did some good work with Zappa.
Anything by Genesis although Steve H is a neighbour when he's not touring and a lovely chap
Premiata Forneria Marconi - Italian rock band that seemed great when I spent a summer on an Italian beach with a pretty girl who loved 'em - less so in Bolton.
Disco. I have about 5 disco records from the time and have successfully buried them both in the attic and in my mind although I do believe that one of them is Ring My Bell which is perhaps the most annoying tune of all time. Still like Going Back to My Roots though - great tune. I still have Funkadelic's One Nation but I don't mind it so much as it's worth a few bob.
Mahavishnu's Visions of the Emerald Beyond. I like the band, and Birds of Fire is the ultimate acid trip soundtrack, but this was twiddling for the sake of it and it was the last one of theirs I bought.
Beefheart's early stuff - loved it at the time but it's a bit "meh" nowadays
There are probably a few more turkeys in there but the vinyl is stashed away and I can't remember the whole sordid journey. All the good stuff constitutes around 100 gig on my I pod classic - so the cringeworthy never sees daylight.
