Inspired by The Bake Off, I've just made some Jaffa Cakes, as per Mary B's recipe.

Turns out it's actually another one of those things that, when you've finished, makes you realise that if you can buy them in the shops for 69p instead, you're better off doing that.

Also in this bracket are:

Crumpets
Potato Cakes
Pork Pies
Onion Rings
and
Breaded Mushrooms.

Makes a change you suggesting we should buy something from a shop rather than regaling us with various horror stories as to why we shouldn't touch them with a barge pole.

Wouldn't have thought that was even possible!

I'm not saying the bulk-manufactured ones aren't still full of bits of fluff and Polish bogies (and yes, I've been to the McVities factory where they make 'em a few times over the years whilst working for United Biscuits).....

....I'm just saying that from a personal standpoint, life's too short to faff about making tiny sponges, cutting out 4cm jelly discs, melting chocolate and then assembling it all and sticking it in the fridge.

And then attacking the mountain of washing up which faces me now.

Crumpets always look tricky to make. I once tried potato cakes, but ended up with enough to feed the whole street.
Proportions aren't my thing.

By the way, whenever I take over the kitchen,I wear an apron.

OK pinny.

It's a man thing.

Crumpets aren't that hard to make but you've got to buy the rings and do a load of faffing about.

And I've never worn a pinny in my life.

Sorry, mate.......

People in my street are always baking stuff. We live in a place where all the kids play out together, are always in and out of each others houses and gardens and people are always up and down the street with trays of cakes handing them out to all the children. I'm quite fortunate to have ended up here really. I thought streets like this only existed in yesteryear or on the tv. A proper little tight knit community.

I've said this before on here - People slag LH off but it's really not that bad.

Yes, there are pockets of dickheads but you get that everywhere.

I know a lot of people on the Peel Estate and I'd rather have a pint and some scran with them than a lot of the people I know who live in Lostock or Ladybridge.

Too right. Lived not far from you 58,and still get back every now and again.
The local library isn't what it was,but I always found the people great. Went down Seddon Street last week, and it's changed very little, although the air raid shelter has gone.

Got about three slides in and then fucked it off.

Sorry.

Friday nights aren't for watching a very detailed chronicle of offing your best mate.

I'll take your word about it being uplifting in the end but I'm not risking having to go through the other stuff first.

Sorry again.

Fact of life for dog owners KP.

I didn't find it uplifting at all. As my dog is entering her twilight years it just reminded me of what I have to look forward to.

Anyroad....enough of killing dogs.

Back to Jaffa Cakes.

Here's how they turned out:Bonce's own personal thread. Vol III (The 'Nice to see you' years). - Page 47 20160812

I pride myself on being a fairly accomplished baker.

However, if I'd delivered that plate of shite up to the judging table, I would happily have forgiven Hollywood for punching me in the nads.

And I would not bear any grudge against Berry for following it up with a swift heel to the face.

Disgraceful performance...
