The Mrs has got herself knocked up!

Whilst this is not a thread for praise and we don't need a visit to see Jeremy Kyle, but the whole thing has put the fear of God in me.

The wife is thrilled to bits but what do you do when you have had enough? The kid isn't like something electronic where I can pull the plug out when I have had enough or pull the batteries out.

I can see it now that I won't be ever sleeping again until it's a teenager and when I do finally fall asleep probably on the sofa, the kid will be using me as a trampoline!

Anyone have any tips on this issue?

I'm absolutely shitting myself! Very Happy

You will love it KP! A truly life changing event. Your lack of sleep will only be for the first few months, you'll soon get into a routine and adjust your sleep pattern accordingly. Family and friends will hopefully help out when you want a trip to bargain booze to meet Nat Smile

I'm hoping you purchase a BWFC baby grow - start him/her young.

When's the due date?

Congratulations KP your life will never be the same again! They can be a real pain in the arse at times but i wouldn't change a minute of it.
No one is an expert when a baby comes along but you'll both get the hang of it very quickly and it is very rewarding.
The lack of sleep is the biggest shock and the days of lie ins are ending but you will get used to it.

Don't mate, the baby's going to do enough of that for you. Very Happy

First off, congrats.

However, a word of warning, there is much truth to the old saying "You spend two years teaching the child to walk and talk; you spend the rest of your life wishing he/she would sit down and shut up." Wink

Expect your wallet to be empty forever from now on, even the moths will swerve it due to lack of sustenance. Smile

Kiss your social and sex life goodbye. They just ended. No one looks or feels sexy when the 2am feed and change needs to be done.  Twisted Evil

More seriously, relax mate, believe it or not most of what you need to do when you're a dad will come to you quite naturally as it's generally common sense stuff. It's good that it's a bit scary because that shows you understand the responsibility heading your way. Unless I miss my guess this WILL change your world, mostly for the better but be advised, you won't get it right every time. When you do make a mistake you'll kick yourself but use it, learn from it and you'll be fine. In that respect it's no different to anything else in life. It's just a lot more rewarding when you do get it right and watching my kids grow up with some help along the way from me has been the best thing I've seen and done in my life.

All the best to you and your missus, here's to hoping both she and the baby are fine and the birth is a nice easy one. Very Happy

Congratulations are in order KP. After the euphoria of the birth, the first six months are the hardest. Sleep deprivation is a living nightmare. Waking up in the wee hours to bottle feed doesn't half mess around with your body clock. Once they are sleeping through the night it is bliss!

Had to pop to the Hospital today with the Mrs worried about things but all ok after one of the nurses checked but didn't mention anything about sex etc, I'm guessing we will get more info when we go for a proper scan and book in.

You should also be able to get a picture. Or at least you used to be able to.

Tinned Toms - You know it makes sense!

Brilliant news kp!

They will piss on you, shit on you, be sick on you, keep you up half the night and worry you to death but it's all worth it and there's nothing more rewarding than watching your kids grow up. Their first smile, first solid foods, first words, first steps, first day at nursery, first day at school, first nativity, everything is amazing and far, far outweighs the empty wallet and tiredness. There's no manual but it all comes naturally as you will find out.

You'll be a great dad kp so don't worry, be excited. Proper chuffed for you mate.  Smile

The scans are not always infallible! Best to keep it as a surprise and see what nature delivers! Friends and family can always colour code presents and clothes for the baby after it is born. I know I never needed or wanted to know the sex of my offspring. What will be will be.

If you're lucky and get a generous nurse they will let you have one for nowt but more often than not they will make you buy them for a few quid.

Anytime.  :good:

By the way, BTID is right, you can often tell at 12 weeks what the baby's gender is but the hospital will generally offer to let you be surprised if you want and not tell you. When my eldest son was born my ex-wife and I opted not to know but when my youngest came along we went the other way.

BTID they'll give you a black and white one free. A colour one usually costs three quid or so. My brother's missus had both when my nephew was on the way. She told me that was 'standard' according to the nurse who did the scan. Both my boys were born before colour ultrasound was used at Sharoe Green or Chorley Hospital so we got a B/W one of each (which I still have) free of charge but that was in 1996 and 99.
