Wanderers continue their great escape attempt at home to QPR this weekend knowing fifteen of their first-team players are out of contract in the summer. With just four months until the end of the season and no end in sight to the financial uncertainty at the Macron Stadium, the task of avoiding relegation has been made all the more difficult by the fact nearly half of Neil Lennon’s squad is not tied to the club beyond June.

Here we take a look at what the future might hold for the players with first-team experience coming to the end of their current deal.

Liam Feeney

Had interest from Preston and Charlton during January but never turned into a bid with both clubs citing they could not afford his wage. Has been a trusted member of Lennon’s first team and his work-rate makes him one of the first names on the teamsheet.

Rob Hall

Shipped out to MK Dons and unlikely to return. A convoluted contract laced with bonuses has made the winger an expensive mistake.

Neil Danns

Injuries have kept him out recently but the midfielder, once one of Lennon’s most trusted lieutenants, needs more game time quickly to earn a contract.

Emile Heskey

Yet to indicate whether he would play on if offered a deal. Has made steps towards coaching as Iain Brunskill’s assistant at Under-21 level and still a big ally of manager Lennon.

Stephen Dobbie

Starved of first-team starts but still capable of the odd bit of magic, as we saw at Wolves. An extended contract currently looks unlikely.

Paul Rachubka

Filled in well during Ben Amos’s recent suspension. A good character behind the scenes who may well stay on.

Kaiyne Woolery

Scored his first senior goal recently and now being courted elsewhere. Wanderers will have to act quickly to keep hold of the speedy front man.

David Wheater

A classy customer when fit but currently sidelined with a hamstring problem. A new deal on similar terms would be very unlikely.

Tom Eaves

Trying to prove himself again after a long-term absence through injury. The striker has yet to get a second chance at first-team level.

Hayden White

Impressing on loan at Blackpool, who have also shown an interest in signing him full time.

Tom Walker

Broke through in Lennon’s first season but has been unable to build on that promise. Technically-gifted and surely a talent Wanderers want to retain?

Rob Holding

Came in from nowhere to command a regular spot in the back four this season. Lennon wants him to stay, fans agree, but the vultures are circling.

Niall Maher

Got Championship experience with Wanderers and Blackpool but injuries have checked his progress. Needs to rebuild his reputation soon in the Under-21s.

Oscar Threlkeld

Had moved to a holding midfield role whilst on loan at Plymouth and is gaining some crucial experience.

Quade Taylor

Regular in the development squad and is still waiting for a second taste of senior football.

Alex Finney

Like Taylor, has proved himself at senior level physically, but is having to do the hard work out of the spotlight at Euxton.
