What does surprise and worry me a little was there was no sign of relief in either his body language or expression. If the deal is all it's cracked up to be by Dean Holdsworth then I would have expected Birch to be smiling at least a little because if the club really is saved under his watch it's a huge feather in his professional cap.

I'm truly hopeful that this is a real deal and the club will avoid admin but I can't say I'm completely comfortable with it just yet. That said I'm going to follow Breadman's lead and stop worrying about it for a little while and just concentrate on the football. COYWM.

Rumours are emerging that Football league are going to reject the deal. One of the investors is himself filing for insolvency (Michael Collins?).

Also Ken Anderson is another of the investors (a football agent), who was banned from being a company director until 2013 and known for high risk financial strategies.

If it is the same Michael Collins (Daisy Hill Hotel Ltd) then his business has been struck off - details here -

I've been on holiday for a week and not followed the shenanigans to closely but if I am reading the bits and pieces correctly we are to be taken over by Deano's group that does not seem to have tons of money to spend, unknown backers and no idea of their intentions.......and did I see this correctly...that Big Eddie will still be the President of the club Razz
It wouldn't surprise me if that was the real reason that others offers were rejected.....My guess is that other bidders wanted him out and full control ......as is their right of course.
Apart from squeaking through the rest of the season I can't see what has been gained exactly. Until more information is available at least.

Iles also told me that he didn't think Michael Collins had anything to do with the bid

The Football League aren't happy with SS's bid and want more details of how it's going to be funded according to a glib, almost throwaway article in today's BN.

This ain't over........

Tinned Toms - You know it makes sense!

Surely he's already proved to Eddie Davies he has the necessary plans in place to fund the club, or he wouldn't have accepted the offer, so it's probably just a case of the football league making absolutely sure before ratifying Deanos bid. That's what I'm hoping anyway.

Their caution is understandable. Imagine the uproar if they give SS the go ahead, and then we fold anyway.

I wouldn't be surprised if the League asked for some kind of non refundable bond. Problem is that it can create a cash flow problem in and of itself. Certainly their diligence will cover different elements than those of importance to the current owner...a minimum 2 seasons cash would not be unusual, and I imagine our flirtation with League 1 isn't helping, as presenting a viable, worst case scenario cash flow projection will not make pleasant reading if we still have some high salaries, coupled with league 1 gate receipts. Clubs are no longer allowed to make up differential with means we could use in the past, under FFP, so I am guessing the amount they need to prove they have in the bank is circa £10m

The way the deal was accepted last week (at the eleventh hour and fifty nine minutes, so to speak), combined with the way Birch looked decidedly nervous as he exited court, suggested to me at the time that it was only done to avoid ED having to stump up and pay HMRC what we owe them.

So it may be the case that ED's not convinced by it all either.

Like others, I'm still struggling to understand why a business like Sports Shield, whose fundamental  premise is to take investors' money and find ways of earning a return on it, would be happy to shell out £7.5 million to buy the club then invest a further £15 million simply to ensure its survival.

That's a bare minimum of £22.5 million, simply to acquire a football club which will be playing in English football's third tier next term.

I don't know how much Sky throw at League One in terms of TV money but I can't see it being that much.

The club's saddled with a squad full of players earning far more than they're worth and very few of them have contracts which are due to expire, so that means that under the restrictions applied under FFP, Sports Shield will be left having to pay the bulk of their wages out of their own pocket with little or no chance of seeing a return.

So, on paper at least, this deal makes no sense.

If I had £2 million to invest, there's no way I'd be handing it over to Holdsworth's lot and crossing my fingers that they would be able to turn it into £3 million by lobbing it into the Macron Money Pit.

It's all very odd and I fear we're nowhere near out of the woods yet.

What chance the Football League aren't satisfied and we slide inexorably into Administration before the 7th?

SPORTS Shield will look to provide the Football League with the financial paperwork they need to pass their takeover at Wanderers this week.

After meeting with the league on Friday the consortium was asked to provide more proof of the funds they have in place for next season – be that as a Championship or League One club.

Holdsworth watched from the directors’ box alongside current owner Eddie Davies on Saturday as the Whites fell 2-1 in the Lancashire derby against Burnley.

Manager Neil Lennon is still unclear when he will sit down and speak about his own future at the Macron Stadium.

“There are no plans to speak with Dean at the moment,” he said. “I know the league wanted to see more information on how they can take the club forward next season as well.

“I assume once that has been ratified then Dean will have the chance to speak to everyone and then show us what he wants to do.”

Lennon is not making predictions on whether the league will pass the takeover but believes that Holdsworth’s persistence in what has been a long and frustrating chase to buy the club has been admirable.

“I'm really fed up of talking about it,” he said. “I've been saying this for a long time, Dean's worked really, really hard at this.

“He's put his heart and soul into it so if anyone deserves to get (the takeover done) it’s him. Whether it goes through or not I cannot say – if it does then hopefully we can get the embargo lifted and strengthen the squad.”
