Breadman wrote:The way the deal was accepted last week (at the eleventh hour and fifty nine minutes, so to speak), combined with the way Birch looked decidedly nervous as he exited court, suggested to me at the time that it was only done to avoid ED having to stump up and pay HMRC what we owe them.
So it may be the case that ED's not convinced by it all either.
Like others, I'm still struggling to understand why a business like Sports Shield, whose fundamental premise is to take investors' money and find ways of earning a return on it, would be happy to shell out £7.5 million to buy the club then invest a further £15 million simply to ensure its survival.
That's a bare minimum of £22.5 million, simply to acquire a football club which will be playing in English football's third tier next term.
I don't know how much Sky throw at League One in terms of TV money but I can't see it being that much.
The club's saddled with a squad full of players earning far more than they're worth and very few of them have contracts which are due to expire, so that means that under the restrictions applied under FFP, Sports Shield will be left having to pay the bulk of their wages out of their own pocket with little or no chance of seeing a return.
So, on paper at least, this deal makes no sense.
If I had £2 million to invest, there's no way I'd be handing it over to Holdsworth's lot and crossing my fingers that they would be able to turn it into £3 million by lobbing it into the Macron Money Pit.
It's all very odd and I fear we're nowhere near out of the woods yet.
What chance the Football League aren't satisfied and we slide inexorably into Administration before the 7th?
Unfortunately a very good chance my son.
Pissing about over what amounts to pocket change in this day and age. You can thank Ed again if this fooks up IMO.

I didn't like Birch's body language or facial expressions when he left court and the longer this goes on the more my uneasiness grows.

Latest from Iles tweet earlier this evening -
No decision yet on Sports Shield takeover. Football League requiring a lot of answers on Plan A and Plan B, Championship or League One

It's looking increasingly likely that Deano and his consortium don't have a pot to piss in. They'll probably scrape through a deal and become owners but they won't be able to take us forwards
only at bwfc could a takeover be met with mild disappointment than the usual optimism.

its Saint Eddie holding it all up again according to the BN article i've seen today. 15million in loans left in the club as his rainy day fund and then the clause about a cut of future revenues

Yes, he saw that they had "nothing" and based his opinion that they would never be able to buy the club directly thereon.
