It's an odd exclamation, but one used by my family since I was a kid. My Gran, who could swear like a docker, often used it when she wanted to spare my young ears, particularly after one of her cooking disasters.
I've no idea what the hell it means.
Who was Old Riley? Why did he have to burst?
Anyone know,or have odd sayings of their own?

I must admit I have never heard of that one. 'Gee Whiz' and 'I'll go to the foot of our stairs' were popular when I was growing up.

"Blood Thunder and Sand" was one my Granddad used when he didn't want to say something my Grandma would tell him off or. Another favourite from him was "God ...... bless!" My dad's was "Sugarbutties".

I've never heard the saying, only thing I can think of was a character called Old Mother Riley from the 50s, who was actually played by a bloke called Arthur Lucan, Bonce should remember him/her.

Remember saying "Blinding" at one time if something was very good, a bit like a footballer having a very good game would be a " Blinder" but "Gee Whizz" never, it sounds a bit like "Cripes" to me  Very Happy

I tried very hard to be Dan Dare.

I'm afraid Corporal Clott was the best I could manage.

Alf Tupper trained on fish and chips.

I think the other bloke you mention was 'Wilson',but I'm not sure.
