Riley back in starting 11?

With Tyrone Mears out of the Huddersfield trip it seems Riley may finally get a chance at right back under Dougie.

With a right-back slot up for grabs on Saturday at Huddersfield Town, could this be the chance Joe Riley has been waiting for?

Despite being the trailblazer for a new wave of talent coming through from the Academy, things have not gone at all smoothly for the 21-year-old defender since his league debut against Stoke City just over 12 months ago.

I'll be glad to see Riley back. He always played okay whenever I have watched him.

The last I saw of young Joe in a league game was at the WBA away game last season. He didn't quite look as good as he did against Stoke but he had to deal with a lot of pressure on the right side that day, i'd pick him over Mears everyday of the week.

Certainly worth a punt ......it is Huddersfield not Man City.

Im still cautious about Riley. Anyone young and not starting in the team seems to be deemed by fans as a top player, but they usually aren't. Just as with Alonso we all wanted him to get game, he looked ok at the start but once we got a good look at him people generally think he not good enough.

Especially since the rest of our youngsters above 18 are crap, so him and Vela being the best two from that bunch doesn't exactly inspire me with confidence. Rhys Bennett was one of the best from that bunch and has now signed on with Rochdale..




21 is very young for a defender.

I really hope Riley starts at right back on Saturday. The thought of Mills or Ream partnering Knight, really wouldn't fill me with any confidence whatsoever!

Ream can play left back, only found this out recently but it does make me wonder why Coyle insisted on playing Ricketts on the wrong side and didn't give Ream a go instead.

Hes fast, good at passing and got an assist from a cross last season, seems more like a LB than a central defender.

Hope Riley gets a chance and takes it.

I'd pick just about anyone instead of Mears.

I hope Riley gets a chance on Saturday but it wouldn't surprise me if he started on the bench with Ricketts at right back.

The thing for me is that Riley hasn't let us down as yet.

Riley is a cracking little player but was torn a new one against sunderland I think last season. It did effect his confidence a little for the next game but you can probably expect that with a 20 year old. Unfortunately he then got injured so we was unable to see if he would bounce back from a bad game.

I hope Riley starts...

Mills is the worst defender we've ever had. I really cannot think of anyone worse. A pissed up Djibril Diawara was better.
