Wanderers took a step closer to finding their new manager yesterday as the final interview process began.
It is understood that Nigel Adkins, the former Sheffield United boss, and Peter Reid, well-known to Wanderers fans as a coach and player, are among the men who were due to hold talks about the vacant Macron Stadium post.
Co-owners Ken Anderson and Dean Holdsworth have both held informal talks with applicants over the course of several weeks but the field has now been narrowed down to four before a final selection is made.
Although fans are anxious to see an appointment the indication from the club is that no timeframe has yet been put on making a decision, which raises the prospect that other names could join the list if they become available.
Leeds United boss Steve Evans remains in position despite reports claiming his club have approached two other managers to replace him at Elland Road.
It is understood Wanderers would seek to speak with the Scot if his situation becomes clearer in the next few days.
Other factors have also caused the search for a new boss to drag towards a 12th week.
Job opportunities at Championship clubs Nottingham Forest, Blackburn Rovers and Aston Villa have caused some targets to delay holding talks with the Whites, or turn them down altogether.
Adkins and Reid have been backed as favourites for the post by most bookmakers.
Both have a history with Anderson, who was involved in takeovers at Adkins’ former clubs Southampton and Reading while he was in the hot seat and who remained an acquaintance ever since.
Reid was initially brought to the club after a phone call from Anderson to help Jimmy Phillips guide Wanderers through the final few months of the season.
Meanwhile, Dorian Dervite has been touted for a move to Belgium.
The French defender, who has a year left on his contract at the Macron Stadium, has been tracked by Jupiter League side Oostende.
Dervite endured a miserable campaign for the Whites, which finished prematurely when he was ruled out for two months with a knee injury against Birmingham City in February.
The former Charlton Athletic star did return to full training by the end of the season but Wanderers would listen to offers for his services.
