I saw him a few years back when he had his three string guitar and stompbox. Apparently he has a band now which would give him more musical options. After about a hour live I'd had enough I'm afraid.

Michael, I bought the album on the strength of that song, on vinyl. It's still in my loft as I have no deck hooked up to my amp. He went on to play keys on various occasions for The Grateful Dead, a very dodgy occupation cos it was "deadman's shoes", no pun intended.

I take it you liked that song then? I remember it from the 1980s, was fantastic.
I would love to play the piano like that.

Bruce Hornsby and the Range are class, only heard of them because it was sampled in this Tupac song Changes

The Way It Is, is a truly brilliant song but the rest of the album wasn't worth writing home about if truth be told.
Another poignant song in the same vein is this classic little number from Michael and the Grease Monkeys.

"Anyone like mogwai"
I like Mogwai AD. I've had "Young Team" and "Come on Die Young" for years.
Excellent stuff.

They use Mogwai's music in The Returned, the stunning French series on Channel 4.

Hip Priest wrote:I was a massive CSNY fan back in the day. The first album, Deja Vu, 4 Way Street and the bootleg Fillmore East June 70 are all magnificent but that's where it ends for me.Everything after that has been pretty lame. Young's solo output contains some brilliant stuff and also some awful stuff but I love the man dearly and always will. Stills' first 2 solo albums were good and the first Manasses album is excellent but he tailed off after that. Love Crosby's stuff with The Byrds and his 1st solo album "If I could Only Remember My Name" is seriously magnificent. Graham Nash bores the living sh1te out of me. Stuff like "Our House" was really embarrassing.
A bit late to pick up on this post but I have been skipping the music thread thinking it was mainly for the younger ones.
However I agree with everything you say and realise that I share some of the same musical tastes as you and WL and SK. Still like Neil Young although he went through a long phase when I lost interest (pretty much everything after Live Rust) until he came back with Psychedelic Pill which I love. I really like songs like Cinnamon Girl and Down by the River and Pill recaptures some of that sound.
The Byrds' Eight Mile High is one of my all time favourite tracks.
I still enjoy listening to Buffalo Springfield, The Byrds, Jefferson Airplane, Love and The Doors and have replaced my old vinyl LPs with CDs.

Hip Priest is probably in a better position to answer that than me AD as I only know some of their music.

I particularly love the 17 minute live version of 8 Miles High on the Untitled album. It still sounds awesome 40 years on. Share most of the other tastes you mentioned as well, although I never delved much into Springfield. From that era I also loved Dylan, Zappa, Beefheart, The Velvets, The Flying Burrito Brothers and The Grateful Dead etc.
I wish I still had all my vinyl stuff from them days, it would be worth a fortune now. Being young and idiotic I traded 'em all in for next to nowt and stocked up on The Clash, The Pistols, Wire, Joy Division etc. Have since rebought all the old stuff again on CD.
I've got quite a few Miles CD's and also love John McGlaughlin (esp. Mahavishnu period) and the old Soft Machine stuff with Robert Wyatt/Kevin Ayers who are 2 of my musical heroes.
