I've got quite a few Miles CD's and also love John McGlaughlin (esp. Mahavishnu period) and the old Soft Machine stuff with Robert Wyatt/Kevin Ayers who are 2 of my musical heroes.

Even better. I'm a big fan of Miles and McLaughlin too! Smile

I love electric guitar based music and Jimi Hendrix is still my favourite. I would add Cream and Santana to the list of stuff I used to listen to a lot as well.

Hendrix was a genius, he was to the electric guitar what Miles was to the trumpet.
I loved Cream as well and some of Jack Bruce's stuff after they split like Songs For a Tailor and Harmony Row were great.
Other English acts that floated my boat at the time were Traffic, Family, The Nice, The Groundhogs and Fairport Convention(esp. while Richard Thompson & Sandy Denny were still around.)

You are describing my record collection!

Other British bands of that period I have fond memories of are King Crimson, Keef Hartley, Colosseum and Peter Green era Fleetwood Mac. Being in London at the time at uni I got to see a lot of them at gigs. Colleges then had mid week gigs as well as gigs on Friday and Saturday.

Another favourite of mine is Quicksilver Messenger Service's Happy Trails.

Yes and mine to some extent. King Crimson were a great band back in time and I managed to see them in various forms in the 70's. Robert Fripp had much more to him than was suggested when seeing him sat on his stool playing his guitar.
I've still got loads of vinyl in the loft but the biggest bollock I dropped was parting with Hendrix Band of Gypsys album original cover. Apparently that album is worth big money now.
There is a lot of new stuff I like, particularly stuff they play on Planet Rock but I always finish up going back to the old stuff when listening on MP3 player.
One guy who I have watched rise to the top is Joe Bonamassa. First heard him about 2005/6 on the Paul Jones Show and took an immediate like to his sound. Seen him live a few times and going to MEN in September. Can be a bit inconsistent both live and on record IMO but when he's on can't think of anyone to touch him.
Apparently he employed some guy to sort his appearance out and went from scruffy oik to sharp dressed man within a couple of months!
Finally CD great memories!!

This brings back great memories of the Lower Sixth Form, dossing around in the prefects room playing albums on a crap old record player at dinner time. Aaaahh, nostalgia, you just can't beat it.

Did anyone else love Scooter back in the day?
I loved this in the late 90s, especially at parties in the summer.

Aw, Endless Summer was brilliant! Late 90s summer evenings outside with that playing was the best!
