Martha Wainwright and a song she wrote for her son. Brilliant.

Neil Young, Liverpool Echo Arena. 13.07.14.
A packed house witnessed the first visit of 'Old Shakey' to the Echo Arena and were left in no doubt that he can still do the business.
The gig should have been performed last year on his European Tour but was cancelled part way through due to injury to guitarist Frak Sampedro. This trip looked like suffering a similar fate due to regular Crazy Horse bass player Billy Talbot suffering a mild stroke, longtime bassist Rick Rosas stepping in to pick up the baton.
Setlist here:-

From a personnal point of view I thoroughly enjoyed the gig despite Cinnamon Girl not being played(this is one of my desert island discs) and parking being a right bastard!
I'm hoping that won't be the last time he'll be on these shores!!

Talking of Neil Young, just before I saw your post SK I had been listening to the CSN&Y album Deja Vu. An interesting mix of the twee (Nash's contributions) the good (Neil Young's contributions) and the embarrassing (Crosby's lyrics to Almost Cut My Hair).

I agree entirely xmiles with what you say, didn't seem like that at the time but has certainly not stood the test. The best track for me on that is Country Girl and the souped up Woodstock still sounds good.
Old Neil was needed by CSN much more than he needed them IMO.

It's definitely of it's time but I still think Deja Vu is a brilliant album. Still love all of it except the embarrassingly twee and awful "Our House" which I can't bear to listen to.

Nash's Songs for Beginners and Crosby's If I Could Only Remember My Name were good offerings at the time also. I do particularly like Crosby's Wall Song.

Another coincidence! I have just listened to If I Could Only Remember My Name!
Some nice tunes, particularly Cowboy Movie. Apparently it is about CSN&Y and the fall out from Nash (Duke) stealing Rita Coolidge (Raven) from Stills (Eli), which really pissed him off.

Uncharacteristically modest of Crosby to cast himself as Fat Albert ("getting old and kinda weird now"). There were some seriously big egos locking horns in CSN&Y.

I remember reading that Stills told Young "you are fucking up my career".

Watched a catchup thing today on Graham Nash talking music in a studio in Manc about two or three years ago. He stated the Hollies got the songs Bus Stop and Look Through Any Window off Graham Gouldman quite by chance. Gouldman was only fifteen at the time and his mum kept mithering the Hollies manager to listen to her son's music. They duly did and recorded both the aforementioned songs and Hermans Hermits recorded No Milk Today, another of his songs around the same time. Fifteen year old and three big hits in the bag!!
My personal fave Hollies song is Gasoline Alley Bred.

Preferred Fairport Convention myself. Liege and Lief is a classic.

Nottingham Forest - He's got the whole world in his hands was my first record "what I bought" with my own money.
Absolutely no idea why now but the 8 year old me obviously really wanted it for some reason.
And I've still got it. Scratched to fuck and jumps more than a frog on Speed but it's still in my record collection.
First "proper record" was Speak like a child by The Style Council when I was twelve or thirteen.
Which I have subsequently discovered was a rip-off of a Brinsley Schwartz track.
Like pretty much everything else Weller wrote.....

This is one of my all time favourite albums.
Discovered this as a student in the late 80's.
Cheers to Spanner from Barnsley for introducing me to Fairport and Sandy Denny.
I owe that man.

I quite like the new Coldplay album, Ghost Stories at the moment, notably 2 songs that are from it:

He describes this in his autobiography Wild Tales. It has some interesting stuff about the Hollies and CSN&Y but Nash appears a bit up himself at times. He is also pretty frank about some of the personal issues Stills and Crosby had.
