Should be a cracker of a bout this one.

Frampton is class and he's fighting a three weight world champion in Santa Cruz - and at two weights above what Frampton usually boxes at.

The old adage is that a good big boxer will always beat a good little one - but is Frampton one of those rare 'great' boxers?

Santa Cruz and Frampton seem to be equally matched - Santa Cruz is two years younger than the challenger Frampton and has considerably more professional boxing matches but Frampton served his time in the amateurs and is a relatively late arrival into the pro world.

The fight is in New York in the early hours of Sunday and Frampton being from N Ireland will probably have the New York Irish giving him a home advantage.

Santa Cruz has fought a lot but not many quality boxers including those he fought and defended his three weight world titles.

Both boxers are not renowned for KO-ing  their opponents, both boxers are undefeated - although Santa Cruz was held to a draw very earlier in his career (his second ever bout).

Frampton starts as the underdog but I think he has the quality to win this.

Hope I'm right.

I was impressed with Frampton when he beat Scott Quigg. I hope he can win it but it's always more difficult when you take on a bigger fighter.

I don't like Frampton I think he's a classless oaf disrespecting fighters after the fight, I've seen him do it a few times and McGuigan is a prick. So I for one will be hoping he gets the shit knocked out of him.

Frampton is hoping to be the first Northern Irish fighter to be World Champ at two weights, but he'll have to produce the fight of his life to beat Santa Cruz who looks proper hard.

Another pathetic come back from Breadman, he really is losing his touch.

Time to give up, your time has passed me thinks.

You're like an ninety year old Tom Jones.

This was Breads quip but seeing the song was released in 1975, you would have to be either in your fifties at least or a bit of a music anorak to have got it.

Frampton wins!

Frampton v Santa Cruz _90570635_hi034305211

Carl Frampton has won the WBA world featherweight title by beating champion Leo Santa Cruz on points in a superb contest in Brooklyn.

It means the 29-year-old from Belfast becomes the first Northern Ireland fighter to win a world title in two weight divisions.

Frampton was declared the clear winner by two of the judges, with the third seeing it as a draw.

It was a first defeat of the 27-year-old Mexican Santa Cruz's career.

"I wanted to be in a fight people would remember," said Frampton, having made good on his pre-fight promise to give fans a "shock".

Really good fight. Got up at 3.30 to watch it. No idea how 1 judge scored it as a draw though.

Credit where it is due. I was impressed with Frampton after his scrap with Quigg. He's cocky but he can back up his words with actions.

Excellent fight. Presumably Rory McIlroy played crap in the PGA so he could get away to the fight early?

Rory missed the cut which is very unusual in itself.

...and yet he was banging on about what great form he was in and how he fancied his chances prior to the start.
