The Sunday Mirror has today alleged that Labour MP Keith Vaz paid for the services of male escorts.

The Leicester East MP, who is chairman of the Home Affairs Select Committee, is said to have stepped down from that position and will likely come under pressure to resign his day job as an MP.

I don't know whether this is true, but let's say it is, does it really matter?

If a man or woman sees hookers in his or her own time what does it matter? Does it have an impact on their ability to do their job? I say it doesn't. Surely seeing hookers is no worse than drinking in the pub every evening or watching re-runs of The Generation Game.

If the bloke who sits next to you at work said he saw hookers every night would anyone care?

Have you ever used a hooker? Did it affect how you did your job?

i may be wrong but is it not illegal to pay for sex? If thats the case then he as an MP has broken the law.

It doesn't bother me that much (unless he tries to claim it back on expenses) what he gets up to or if other people want to pay for sex but as a high ranking public servant he has to be very careful

To be fair I think they were "escorts". Perhaps he just paid them to play Scrabble with him.

Escorts don't have sex do they? They just escort you.

to be serious for a moment it's about time the law was changed to stop the sale of sex being illegal

It's a tough call. I don't doubt there are women who choose to make a good living from selling themselves at the top end of the market, but those at the bottom might not be there by choice.

Legalising it just encourages more women into the sex trade.

Plus, how would you like it if the house next door was a brothel?

it might be ok i might get a discount  Laughing

In reality i wouldn't like it but surely it's better for sex workers to be in a safe place away from pimps and the like and not having to risk being on street corners picking up all sorts of weirdos

This man takes every opportunity to climb on his high horse and preach to the rest of us on a multitude of issues thus when he breaks the law, no-matter the offence, he has to accept the consequences. He should resign.

True. But in general what people get upto after work shouldn't be an issue for anyone else.

I agree Nat, but in a position where blackmail could affect the lot of us there have to be standards. He breaks the law by paying for sex, though he hasn't been prosecuted. He knows he has done wrong thus standing down from his gravy train job. If he can't 'Pull' like the resat of us have to then he's not the man who should be leading this country. Let's see how it unravels. He might be in line for a Peerage.  Twisted Evil

I can't "pull" as you put it. I have to trawl dating sites. What's your point?

Bollotom hit the nail on the head with the fact that as an MP he can be left open too blackmail, anybody in a position of influence cannot put themselves in a position to be blackmailed so in that case it does absolutely affect his job and he should resign.

Someone can only be blackmailed if they're either embarrassed about what they're doing, or doing something illegal.

It's not illegal to enjoy the company of male escorts.

It's been mentioned that he's been using poppers and divulging in bareback with one of them.

You're right but MPs are elected and if they have secrets that can affect there popularity and therefore their chances of being elected that is a clear blackmail risk.
