A £100 dog licence and the enforcement of compulsory micro chipping of dogs would help a lot.
And a 12 monthly "MOT" where they have to attend a visit to a vet's where the vet can look for behavioural problems and aggressive tendencies whether genetic or trained.
Is that behavioural problems and aggressive tendencies in the dog or the owner?

Seriously , they both need checking out!!

Outrageous decision, the police seem to be saying the dog had no history of aggression. What utter crap, dogs don't just turn into killers overnight.

The fact this woman works for the police makes a prosecution in this case even more important - if there isn't one, every time this happens in the future the defendant will point to the police woman who got away with it.

You're right both need monitoring but obviously the vets expertise is in the dog's behaviour and they could send anyone in with it.
A person can hide their tendencies and create a false impression but the dog will always act how it's been taught to act so the dog's behaviour would be where the tell tale signs are.

What gets me is why anybody would want certain dogs as pets in the first place.

I can't understand risking your own and your family's lives for any dog, let alone some of the vile, ugly mutts you see out and about.

Let's take the Staffordshire Bull Terrier for example. They're not sweet, they're not cute, to be honest they just look like dirty, smelly, slimy, nowty bastards that I wouldn't wanna be within two metres of.

The fact that the thing was called bruiser tells you all you need to know.

2 years 1 under licence is not enough for this, people will serve much longer sentences for crimes where the consequences are much less severe.

What's good about this story is that the vet was proactive in trying to avoid this as a professional in a position to be able to, however he was badly let down on this occasion by law enforcement.
