The first football game I ever watched was the 1958 Cup Final on the family's brand new television. Being an impressionable 8 year old (= glory hunter) I decided to support the team that won. I have persevered with my support ever since even when we dropped into the old fourth division, but I do occasionally wonder how different my life would have been if the result had gone the other way.

its such a good story, il let you off...

you have also passed the 'non glory hunter' test too - your undying support I feel gives you 'genuine fan' status... Wink

Cheers. Very Happy

Slightly boring but I'm part of the menfolk in our family that got taken by their fathers..

Goes back many many years, which I've continued by taking my lad.

Sorry, just Bolton born, taken by his Bolton dad!!

Mum and dad supported Bolton, my grandad played one game for Bolton as well, he broke his leg in it and never played again.

When my dad left the army in 1962, we all moved to Bolton, for no other reason other than his brother lived there. The good thing was that his brother was the manager of the Odeon, and we got complimentaqry tickets for the 1962 night game against West Ham. (we beat them 3-0 according to the records). Two years later my dad decided to run off with a younger woman, although my parents finally got back together, but in London. Loved living in Bolton for all of 2 to 3 years, White Bank Secondary in Deane, Grammar school in the middle of town, Bolton itself, etc, all of it great, but none as good as the sounds, smells, and atmosphere of my very first game at Burnden Park. Nearly always had to follow from afar, including overseas, but its been 50 years of every emotion you can think of. Never had a season ticket, because I couldn't afford it, but when I could, couldn't manage it becasuse of shift work, and other commitments. Can't even consider supporting a 'second' team... Its BWFC all the way, and will continue so, until I fall off my perch.

If this is true...

I was born on Merseyside and have lived there all my life. I was the only Bolton supporter in a school were you were either a 'Red' or 'Blue'. However, my family were originally from Bolton and my Dad took me to Burnden Park when I was 6 years old. I have since realised that this was not about football but to teach me how to handle disappointment ! I am pleased to say though that the first and last game I saw with my Dad were games that Bolton actually won. When my son was about 5 years old my Mother-in-law bought him a Liverpool kit. I arrived home from work to find him dressed in this and she said, 'Doesn't he look great ! Just like a little Michael Owen !' I thought, 'I'll soon change that and replaced it with a Bolton kit. My son is a Wanderers fan too. It's the cross we have to bear.

I googled 'Diane Bolton' and there she was... I saw mention of 'Diane "Sparkle Skirts" Bolton' actually - hence my post. I guess that wasn't her, then? Wink
