Wanderers winger Filipe Morais has cast some doubt on his future at the Macron Stadium after claiming talks over a new contract have stalled.

The popular wide man is a free agent at the end of the month having helped Phil Parkinson’s side secure promotion from League One last season.

Morais signed a short-term deal in January and was offered a year extension by the Whites last month – but the former Bradford City star claims there has been no progress since then.

Responding to a fan’s question about his future on Twitter, the 31-year-old claimed he had “not heard from them (Wanderers) in a while” and that there was “no contract” to sign.

Wanderers declined to comment officially on an individual player’s contractual situation. But The Bolton News understands there had previously been some confusion over the number of representatives involved in the deal.

Discussions are set to resume shortly, with hopes still high Morais will sign a new contract - but no deadline has yet been set by the club or players involved.

Morais is one of a handful of Parkinson’s promotion squad who are available on a free this summer but have not yet been officially released, joining Max Clayton, Jay Spearing and Dorian Dervite.

He arrived from Bradford on deadline day to become a major catalyst in the Whites’ success, registering 13 assists and two goals in his 19 appearances.

Meanwhile, Wanderers confirmed Alex Perry has signed his first professional deal.

The 19-year-old Liverpool-born midfielder caught Phil Parkinson’s eye with his performances for David Lee’s development squad early last season and was called up to make his senior bow against Everton Under-23s in the Checkatrade Trophy. He made a second senior appearance against Grimsby Town in the FA Cup first round and has been on the Whites’ books since the age of 10.

Full-back Callum Spooner – son of ex-Bolton defender and current Under-18s coach Nicky Spooner – has been told he will be released and is free to find a new club.
