Filipe Morais is begging for a chance to square-up to Premier League-bound Wolves tomorrow afternoon.
The winger harbours a healthy amount of respect for the league leaders, who need just one point from their final three games to cement their status as champions.
But the Wanderers wide man – born in Portugal from where the axis of Wolves’ promotion squad was recruited – insists the challenge of spoiling the party and furthering Bolton’s own survival ambitions is one to be relished.
“I honestly can’t wait,” he told The Bolton News. “There’s all this pressure building around the game but, for me, it just makes it more important to be out there.
“I was gutted to miss out on the game at Molineux, whatever the score was. I’ve watched a lot of Wolves this season, particularly because of the Portuguese players in the team, and their manager. They are big news back at home.
“So, speaking personally, it would mean everything to get out there and test myself against a team like that. You have to believe in yourself and I don’t think the lads fear anyone.
“You have to give Wolves credit, there’s no point denying they are not a good team. But bring it on – we won’t be hiding.”
Wolves have attracted a degree of controversy in Championship circles with their transfer policy this season, geared in the main through so-called ‘Super Agent’ Jorge Mendes. But an expensive gamble has paid off handsomely, with finance experts predicting promotion could be worth £140million to the club.
“Portuguese players have not set the world alight in this division,” Morais said. “But the standard Wolves have brought in has been incredible. They have been huge signings – Ruben Neves has captained Porto – and so it’s no surprise to me they have had such a strong mentality.”
Morais reckons Wanderers turned a corner with last weekend’s draw at Barnsley, which left them two points clear of the bottom three, and above Birmingham on goal difference.
“It feels so much like last season,” he said. “Every game feels so important but however we do it, whoever we’re against, we need results.
“I don’t care if it’s scrappy or ugly, we need to put points on the board because staying up this season would be a massive achievement for every one of the lads.”
