Exclusive: Aston Villa Football Club suspends CEO Keith Wyness less than a fortnight after Championship play-off final defeat and amid suggestions that HMRC has served a winding-up order against Villa, one of England's oldest professional football clubs, for missing tax payment.

Some more clarity on Aston Villa FC situation: the club missed a tax payment last Friday, and has been given a period (which I understand to be a week) by HMRC to make the payment or face a winding-up order.

Seems to be a couple of issues for Villa.

The first is that the Chinese owner is having problems getting money out of China because of their regulations on money leaving the country, and the second is that they've fallen foul of FFP, which limits how much they can lose over a 3 year period - and it seems they are already at that limit after only 2 years!

Seems they had all their eggs in one basket to get in the Premier this season - and came up short.

The tax bill is apparently £4.2 million - which is normally peanuts to them - and they say it will be paid this week - their problem is trading this year at a profit - which means a massive financial restructure. Trevor Birch (remember him!) the ST best friend - has already been called in apparently and there are even talks about them selling off their training ground.

A good write up about things here -

Knowing Ken's luck Aston Villa will become the new Sunderland, and then we'll just have to find one other team to finish below us with Villa and Rotherham.
I think the freak snow storm in Horwich could have completely screwed Aston Villa for a few years. They looked favourites for 2nd place going into that match but then the weather turned an "easy 3 points at Bolton" into a lottery of a match in the snow, and their confidence dropped after that result

Aston Villa have had their odds slashed on being relegated from the Championship.
They’ve been cut from 25/1 yesterday morning, into just 8/1 as of today, following an overwhelming amount of bets on their demise.
In total, no less than 97% of bets in the last 24 hours have been placed on the Dr Tony Xia-owned club slipping into League One.
Newly promoted Rotherham are favourites to slip out of the league at even money, followed by Bolton (6/4), Ipswich (11/4), Hull (4/1) and QPR (4/1).

The above was a small bit in a rather good article from the Birmingham Mail about the goings on at Villa - the link is below and the reporters video is worth a watch.

Basically their CEO as been suspended because he was exploring the possibility of going into Admin behind the owners back apparently.  The owner can't get money out of China and has had to take a loan of £2 million out to pay the tax bill this week.  That they are looking to sell their car park and their best players to fill a £40 million black hole to comply with FFP.

Not looking good for them!

No doubt their ST are out at this moment rounding up people and businesses of high net worth?

(Only joking Mr Manning before you bite again!)

If they lose 3 of their best players as suggested and aren't able to pay for any quality they'll be further down the table for sure.
I'm surprised Ipswich are favourites to be one of the 3 relegated, id have thought they have a better side than Blackburn
