Bolton Wanderers were beaten by Brentford at Griffin Park in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday afternoon, with a second half Neal Maupay goal proving decisive.

Immediately after Wanderers' latest league fixture, manager Phil Parkinson spoke to bwfc.co.uk and covered the following topics...

Parkinson's assesment of the game...

''It was another tight game that we've come away with nothing from. It was a great finish to win them the game and separate the two teams.''

''Brentford were the stronger of the two teams in the first ten or fifteen minutes and then we grew into the second part of the first half.''

''We got into some very good crossing positions, but a combination of the crossing not being good enough and that desire needed in the six-yard box to get us a goal lacking, meant that we couldn't find that moment.''

''We all need those moments, we can't kid ourselves. We've been in so many tight situations and we need a moment when we get a goal that gives us all a lift.''

''Once again, you can't fault the effort, preparation and the performance level of the team, but we need someone to step up to the plate and produce a moment of quality to give us a lift on the bench, the lads a lift on the pitch and the supporters - who travelled magnificently, a lift as well.''

''We put the ball into the box from good areas today, and we need to keep on doing that, but we also need someone to finish one off.''

Losing narrowly causing added frustration...

''We're in every game. That is a credit to the lads and their work ethic, because when we go behind their heads don't drop, they keep going right to the end.''

''The lads are hurting, we're all hurting and I know the supporters are too. We're not going to hide away from that. But, let me tell you, the whole group is hurting because we're doing all we can.''

'We're going to do all we can in the Rotherham game on Boxing Day - which is one almighty fixture, it was always going to be. All the bottom teams have lost today, so the game is a massive one, just as it always was.''

''We've got to look at these three games coming up over the Christmas period to try and get some points on the board.''

Potential controversy surrounding Neal Maupay's goal...

''The lads said they thought it was offside, and it is very, very marginal. It is very difficult to tell from the angle that I've seen.''

His team deserved more than what they got today...

''I think we definitely deserved a point from today's game. Despite their recent run, Brentford is always a difficult place to come.''

''Ben (Alnwick) has gone forward and won a header, and on another day that goes into the corner and it's a good away point for us.''

Stepping forward and producing match-winning moments...

''We backed ourselves to come here and get something, and we were confident we could do that. It wasn't to be.''

''We've just got to put the pressure on ourselves as a group to produce those game-changing moments. We need that to come from within the group.''

''It's there, we're capable of it. But, we need to produce when it matters.''

It really is a pitiful when the manager is praising the players for not getting dicked.

On Ben Alnwick's chance Parkinson said he (a goalkeeper) should have chested it down and put a screamer past the keeper, fucking clueless.

I think that was meant as a joke, Martin!
