Still think he could come good, but must trust the manager i hate letting a talent go whilst playing other clubs youngsters (loanees). Time will tell.

It's a helluva tricky task working out which youngsters will come good because they all develop at a different pace - we've just paid £350k for an academy kid we let go and I always rued what happened with Dzemaili after he left us for example.wessy wrote:Still think he could come good, but must trust the manager i hate letting a talent go whilst playing other clubs youngsters (loanees). But that's also a good thing. The rich clubs always snap up the best young talent when they're practically still in the womb so the rest of us have to be grateful when they do let young players go. It's a lottery.

Something rubbed Ian up the wrong way......similar to Sarc.......we may never know why this lad wasn't given a chance. Yet most of us would agree he did a good job when we were in league one before. So what's the logic of not giving a proven league one player a chance.
Anyway its a done deal now so move on - two years from now Arsenal will sign him for 42 million [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Apparently we have stepped up the pusuit of Bodvarsson this week and I'm concerned. What the LOV article doesn't mention is that last season he scored 1 goal in 40 matches for Millwall - which is presumably why Rowett would let him go.Sluffy wrote:Wanderers make offer for Icelandic international striker
As reported by The Bolton News, Bolton Wanderers have made a bid to sign Millwall and Iceland striker, Jón Dadi Bödvarsson.
Bödvarsson, 29, is out of contract at the end of the season & Wanderers have made contact with Millwall in hopes of signing the forward on loan.
Bödvarsson has just eighteen minutes of club football to his name so far this season, coming on as a second half substitute during Millwall’s 3-1 EFL Cup win against Cambridge United back in August.
He scored his first goal for over a year in Iceland’s 1-1 draw against Uganda on Wednesday,
The forward has been in England since 2016, when he joined Wolverhampton Wanderers from German side Kaiserslautern.
He moved a year later to Reading, where he spent two years before moving on to join Millwall in 2019.
In the Championship, he has scored 21 goals in 164 games. Internationally, he has four goals in sixty-one games & has represented his country at the 2016 Euros and the 2018 World Cup.
Predominantly a striker, Bödvarsson is also capable of playing out wide if needed.

But he's past his prime, presumably on decent money and has struggled finding the net. Maybe it will be easier in League 1 but I just don't see where the value in this deal lies when there are younger and cheaper options out there.

Got to say it’s a puzzle to me too Lusty. Obviously we haven’t see much of this guy but obviously IE believes he can do a job for him so as with the Politic situation, we have to hope he’s right. On Bödvarsson, I’m not sure he’ll come anyway because he must be on big money and with recent injuries Millwall may be forced to keep him? On the other hand, if Evatt has finally seen the light and decided to play two up top, a physical player to create opportunities for Charles might be where he’s looking rather than an out and out proven goal scorer?

I think Evatt has seen the light - but isn't Baka supposed to be that player?Whitesince63 wrote:

Baka is taller and more robust - although despite being 6'4" seemed to lose every header v Ipswich.

Not exactly excited about Bodvarsson, but he's another option and if we do want to play a bit more direct he gives us that option - he can also play on the wing which fits nicely. One more striker would be good for me, either a loaned academy kid or a gamble from non league, ready to sit on the bench but take their chance when it comes.

Bodvarsson has been on fancy wages and 6 years ago he was probably worth it, but it worries me that the club are considering making such a big investment on a player whose best days are behind him. Love the ambition but I'm not convinced he's the one to invest in. It might work out I guess.

What investment Lusty? From what I can understand the lad has reduced his own wage demands and Millwall will still pay towards his salary, so since it’s only a loan I can only assume the wages we’re responsible for will be in line with what we can afford. Whilst he may not be doing it in the Championship, there’s every reason to hope that he’ll look better at L1 level. If he doesn’t, he goes at the end of the season and we all move on. If he does, happy days!

Bolton Wanderers are readying a move for Derby County target Tyrese Owen. Haringey Borough defender Owen was due to go on trial at Derby before it was cancelled due to Derby's embargo and now Bolton could step in for his signature. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Fair enough if he's accepted a pay cut and Millwall chip in.Whitesince63 wrote:

But if we're building I think we should be looking at a younger prem player who we might have a chance of signing as we did with Dapo.
See what happens eh?

Bit more on Wanderers' chase for Bodvarsson, with the deal now looking like it will be permanent.[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Top earner, past his peak, hasn't done anything for a couple of seasons, limited time for ROI and a fee.
Don't do it Evatt!!! You can do better.
