As we battled through Storm Brendan, we had to find our way through the maze of one-way terraced streets that surround Lincoln City’s LNER Stadium, formerly known as Sincil Bank.

Before the match we were invited to shelter in the Travis Perkins Suite, where over a pint of their excellent 1884 ale, we swapped stories of their previous and our current hard times, as the Imps are another club that has been through it, dropping out of the Football League but managing to recover and are now on their way up again, well run by their current owners.

The Bolton fans were sat in the Stacey West Stand, which was renamed after two lifelong Lincoln city fans, Bill Stacey and Jim West tragically lost their lives in the fire at the Bradford City v Lincoln City match in May 1985. Events like that puts things into perspective.

Keith Hill sorted out who had dried out after Saturday’s drenching at Rochdale and made a couple of changes, bringing in Dennis Politic and the returning Luke Murphy, back after his suspension.

Lincoln caught us early with a simple cross and header but other than that, there wasn’t much in the first half as the players concentrated on battling the elements. At half time, Yoan Zouma was forced off through injury and the pack was reshuffled and it worked for about 30 minutes.

It was great to see Ronan Darcy get his first goal and we pressed forward and gave as good as we got. But a mistake in midfield led to their well taken second goal. They brought on John Akinde and we fell apart in the last 10 minutes, conceding three more to give them a flattering scoreline.

In the end we were well beaten. We’re still in the early days of rebuilding the playing side. No-one expected that it would be easy and I’m sure there are lots of bumps ahead, but we’ve got to go through it as players are brought in and players learn on the job, which is the position we are in.

Unfortunately, it is causing aggravation between fans who accept this and those that don’t. Just remember, together we stand or divided we fall.
