Thanks Sluffy, I had a feeling it was coming. Looks like it's sit tight time. What strange times we're living in.

I tend to think people of our age have been remarkably lucky really as we've lived through a relatively healthy and prosperous time, no big wars like our fathers and grandfathers got caught up in, no shortage of food, no real poverty, decent housing, healthcare, social infra structure, access to affordable world travel, full employment, decent wages, great educational opportunities, safe to walk the streets, dawn of such marvellous new/smart technology, education and recreation facilitates, the list is endless really and this virus really is the first fly we have had in our ointment so to speak.

Yes the world has changed for me and no doubt many others of our generation and older but I fear for the future of our children and theirs as the planet has been abused and damaged, society seems to be getting worse and worse (just look at how people have behaved during coronavirus for instance) and the future doesn't seem that bright to me somehow - I was talking to a former colleague of mine last week and asked him what his section was like with the virus about and he told me he hadn't seen anyone in person since March, it is all done by zoom these days from home!  Do people not value social interaction at work anymore, how do people learn and develop interpersonal skills, read body language, develop bonds and friendships outside of work?  It all seemed so strange and foreign to me.  Do people no longer work as teams anymore (would certainly explain a lot as to why the Wanderers are so bad at the minute).

Anyway, it is what it is.

With having a little bee in my bonnet at the moment over Burnham, it comes as no surprise to me whatsoever to see a Labour dominated council in Warrington, approaching the government and requesting to be put in tier 3 and holding "positive" talks about it already.

Is there only me that sees that Burnham used the situation for his own political advantage?

Nobody else including Merseyside (remember this is Militant's old stomping ground) had anything near the same reluctance to be put in the highest tier - only Burnham!

Funny that eh?

Anyway you and your love ones stay safe, that's all that really matters.

That reminds me, I got my Labour NEC ballot papers today. I'm leaving voting until tomorrow.

Too much excitement is bad for you. Very Happy

I'm roughly the same age as you - perhaps slightly younger? But I was allowed to stay up on the night of the Cuban missile crisis wondering if the world was going to end that night. My mum didn't breast feed my brother because of Strontium 90 in the atmosphere. Sure the 60s got better and we did OK on the back of those lessons for a while but that generation felt so lucky to survive it was natural that there would be a great outpouring of humanity - which has carries us through until now. If our children assume survival is taken for granted we're all f*****.

How ludicrous is the timing of a promise to give £22m of backdated support to Greater Manchester - just a day after Boris Johnson fell out with local leaders over a request for an extra £5m?!!

Meanwhile, callous Tory ministers vote down Rashford's proposal to continue subsidised school meals into the holidays. Penny-pinching at its most uncompassionate!

Don't get me started on Serco, Dido Harding, testing catastrophe, HS2 farce etc

.

Burnham's making a fuss about Tesco now!

To be fair he has a point but again it is down to the public to put masks on and not really Tesco (or even the local pub or wherever else) to enforce it.

They are people paid to stack shelves not a punch on the nose (or far worse) dealing with the scum that is out there on the streets thinking they can do whatever they want and fuck everyone else.

What does Burnham expect, every shop in the country to hire door security?

Andy Burnham attacks Tesco over face coverings

Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham has criticised Tesco for not enforcing coronavirus rules on masks.

He told the House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee that, during recent talks with the government over tier three restrictions, he had asked for powers to close businesses not deemed to be doing enough to make themselves Covid-safe.

Mr Burnham said: "I'm not just talking about pubs and restaurants. There are large supermarkets in Greater Manchester who in my view have not properly implemented the requirements around face coverings.

"I'll name one chain, Tesco. I don't believe they have taken a responsible attitude to this issue. They've said it's not for them to enforce. Well, I think it is for those organisations to enforce."

The BBC has contacted Tesco for comment.
