What are your favourite Bolton away games from your time watching the Super Whites?

My all time favourite was when we beat the Cup Holders Arsenal 3-1 at the old Highbury ground. I wasn't even meant to be going but got offered a ticket and lift down on the morning of the game and it was certainly well worth it!

I went to Bury the last time we played them and we won 2-0, I think there were more Bolton fans in the ground than Bury and the away end was bouncing.

I did used to go to more away games when i was younger on the official travel club coaches and remember us beating Preston 4-1 at Deepdale on their infamous plastic pitch.

My worst away game would have to be Man Utd away when that dirty bastard Jonny Evans practically ended Holden's career. That was the start of the slide for me as we never recovered after that.

Too many to mention. The most traumatic was Plymouth away, 1968 I think. We left Burnden at midnight, and arrived in Plymouth just before 1pm.
Got off the coach, and immediately threw up in my duffle bag. Then we had a walk round the zoo, which was pretty small, where I was violently attacked by a pelican. It was just strolling along like it owned the place.
Despite the large beak, there wasn't much power in it. It was a bit like being assaulted by an ironing board.
To round off the day we won 2-1.

Tough to pick one as there were so many, especially in the 90's.

The 3-1 win at Arsenal has to be up there, likewise the 2-0 FA Cup win at Anfield.

Worst is easy. Southampton away in the FA Cup back in 91/92. My Dad let me take the day off school and we went on the coach down to The Dell for the replay. Bolton took a shock last minute lead through Julian Darby which sent the packed (standing) away end absolutely mental. We'd done it, we'd created a cup shock. Then Dave Felgate let a 40 yard Barry Horne hit-and-hope squirm through his hands and the dream was over.

To make matters worse, when we arrived back at Burnden in the early hours we realised my Dad had left his lights on so the battery was fooked. I learnt some good swear words that day.

Blackburn away coming back from 3-1 down to win 4-3. Away end was bouncing when Stelios scored the winner.
The 2-0 win at Anfield with with goals from Super John and Andy Walker.
F.A. Cup replay at Goodison when we went 2-0 down and came back to win 3-2. Stubbsy equalising and a late winner from Coyle.
The 3-1 cup win at Highbury (although I didn't get to go to that one.)
A 4-0 Victory at Preston yonks ago when Warwick Rimmer scored an unlikely hatrick. You could see the roof on the old wooden away stand bouncing up and down.
Finally my very first away game ever. Maine road in 1963 when we went 4-0 up by half time. Think Frannie Lee and Wyn Davies both scored iirc. Finished 4-2. It was our first season in the old Division 2 after being relegated from the 1st division the season before.

Surprised nobody's mention Reading at Wemberly or Worthington at Blackburn when we won promotion.

Arsenal in the cup was brilliant and we even had a goal disallowed otherwise it would have been 4-1 for us.

I guess the worst one was at Charlton, which I'd been to a number of times previously and always found to be a pleasant day out.

I'd phoned for a ticket, told them I was a Bolton fan living in London and they gave me one in one of the main stands.

I went on my own and was sat with all the Charlton fans, which didn't bother me, I've been in the middle of several non Bolton crowds in my time.

The thing was that some ancient bloke sat in front of me and slightly to the side somehow cottoned on I was singing and shouting for Charlton and decided to have a go at me.  I told him I wasn't here for bother and I told their ticket office I was a Bolton fan and this was the seat they gave me.

It then started to turn ugly with others starting to join in.  I told them I had paid to see a match and that was exactly what I was going to do but it really wasn't that enjoyable.

One or two told me to leave early as there would be a reception party outside waiting for me otherwise but I thought better to leave in a crowd than be outside on my own.

Charlton won which I guess did me a favour and lightened their mood a little bit but it wasn't a pleasant experience leaving the ground and getting to the station but nothing actually happened to me.

It did make me realise that I was getting a bit on the old side to be traipsing around London, the south east, the south coast, the midlands and Suffolk on my own following the whites and maybe I should think about packing it in.

I did manage a few more seasons after that though and my last away game I attended was at Fulham  sat with Vernon Kay close by - I wasn't star struck though!

I have to agree with Sluffy ( Shocked ). If I could only pick one away game it would be the Reading game at Wembley.

And I have also had more than one bad time at Charlton at their old ground The Valley. An enormous place so I just used to go on the terraces. It was so big and mostly empty that I never had that kind of nasty experience with home fans though.

My worst away game would be April 1977 at Charlton. It was on a Friday night and we totally dominated the game but were robbed at the close by a blatant handball goal a la Maradona. According to the reports even the Charlton goalie saw it was a handball. That goal almost certainly cost us promotion to the top tier that season. Another awful time at Charlton was seeing us throw away a one goal lead, lose 4-1 and get relegated instead of Charlton in April 1971.

Haven’t been to too many away games, worst has got to be the 5-0 Stoke defeat.

I don't class the Wembley games as away matches as they are away for both teams really.

If i had picked one it would have to be the Reading game and the worst ones would be the Watford play off final when we just didn't turn up and the Tranmere play off final loss.

Yes that Tranmere game is one I can't forget (unfortunately).

I'm not liking where this thread is taking me. I'm in danger of disappearing down the rabbit hole.

Do not mention it. Do not mention HIM.

I warn you now.

Worst
Losing 1-0 at West Brom in the driving snow. I was sat in the front row absolutely covered from head to toe, freezing cold. Can't remember the year but I seem to remember Bob Taylor getting their goal.

Best
Probably the white hot 3-1 win at Arsenal that others have mentioned. Hard to think of a better one.

One of the best for me although we lost 1-0 was against Blackpool in 1968, we tried to hitch hike it overnight, through Belmont, Abbey Village without a lift and eventually got to Preston and caught the bus the rest of the way, got to Blackpool early morning and there was loads of Bolton fans having a mass kickabout  on the beach, it cheered us up, in the ground we were on the Kop and the Blackpool fans were showering us with pennies but not enough for our fare home, bast**ds, anyway it was a great day out and luckily we managed to thumb a lift all the way home.

The worst in recent memory for me was Accrington last season say no more.
